Patent number: 8276701Abstract: An apparatus capable of omni-directional movement including a belt layer made of a plurality of interlocking flexible rings and a surface layer made of a laterally inelastic and longitudinally flexible material that surrounds the exterior of the belt layer. The device has a bladder located in the interior of the belt layer that provides structural support for the belt layer and surface layer and a hub that is in contact with the surface layer and is connected to an axle. Longitudinal motion occurs as the bladder, the belt layer, the surface layer, and the hub rotate together. Lateral motion occurs as the belt layer and the surface layer rotate around the bladder. Longitudinal motion is induced by a plurality of electromagnetic curvilinear motor drive rings that are located around the hub and are in contact with the surface layer.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2010Date of Patent: October 2, 2012Inventor: Jonathan D. Patent number: 5382052Abstract: The in-line roller blade can skate forward, backward, sideward, turn right, turn left and spin to serve as a figure skate. The in-line roller blade figure skate and skateboard comprise a composite belt enwraping around the wheels. The composite belt comprises the resilient belt, string and beads. The self-propelling mechanism can rotate the wheel that the rider can skate without pushing against the ground. These two techniques can be applied to the ice skate to have the sideward skating capability.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1992Date of Patent: January 17, 1995Inventor: Min M. Tarng

Patent number: 4030178Abstract: A roller for a continuous track on a crawler tractor or the like comprises two sections welded together to define an interior lubrication cavity which communicates by means of lubrication passages to spaces containing bearings and to an exterior lubrication port. Liquid plastic material capable of in situ foaming to form an open cell plastic mass is injected into the cavity and passages wherein it sets into an open cell plastic mass. Subsequently, lubricating oil or grease is injected under pressure through the lubrication port to fill the open cells of the plastic mass for storage and subsequent supply to the bearings through the lubrication passages. The open cell plastic mass also provides a barrier or filter for particles of contaminants disposed in the cavity as a result of welding and other manufacturing steps and prevents circulating of such particles with the lubricant and damage to the bearings and seals.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1975Date of Patent: June 21, 1977Assignee: Fiat-Allis Construction Machinery, Inc.Inventor: Leroy Luebkemann
