Abstract: Currency bills are received, transported, and imaged to produce image data from which a visually readable image of each currency bill can be reproduced. Each of the currency bills includes a denomination, a serial number, and a set of secondary identifiers. One of the currency bills is determined to be a suspect bill. The suspect bill serial number is attempted to be extracted from the image data associated with the suspect bill. In response to failing to extract a complete serial number of the suspect bill, a serial number field in a suspect report is populated with a serial number snippet image.

Abstract: A process chart recorder for the on-line recording of process measurement data that has a dot-printing head. In order to develop a chart recorder arrangement having a dot-printing head of the generic type to the extent that the overall printing operation can be effected more easily using mechanically or electromechanically simple means, the printing actuation of the dot-printing head and the actuation of the pen wheel is effected through a common stepping motor. The stepping motor is provided with mechanical means through which the stepping motor is coupled to the pen wheel in a manner causing rotation in one direction and blocking rotation in the opposite direction, with the result that, in one direction of rotation of the stepping motor, only the pen wheel can be actuated and, in the other direction of rotation, the entire dot-printing head can be lowered for printing.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring experimental quantities utilizes a self-contained ink jet impactless timing device including an ink jet head employing a timing circuit to provide a precisely timed ink dot stream. In utilizing the present invention, relative movement is initiated between the ink jet device in indicia receiving medium, generally ticker-tape paper, producing a dot pattern on the indicia receiving medium. The dot pattern, so produced, can be reviewed to obtain the experimental results. The invention can be utilized in various ways to measure the acceleration due to gravity, velocities, momentum, linear acceleration, period of a pendulum, motion of a spring, etc.
Abstract: Thermal transfer recording is carried out through the steps of: applying a heat or electric energy in a pattern to a peripheral surface of an ink roll having the peripheral surface composed of a heat-transferable ink, thereby to form a melted or softened pattern of the heat-transferable ink; causing the peripheral surface of the ink roll to contact a recording medium to transfer the melted or softened ink pattern onto the recording medium; and smoothing the peripheral surface of the ink roll.
