  • Patent number: 11841830
Abstract: A method to dynamically switch between catalog sharing protocols includes monitoring, over a period of time, access to a catalog used to index data sets. Using information gathered during this monitoring period, the method divides the period of time into intervals based on which of a plurality of sharing protocols, used to access the catalog, would provide the best performance during the respective interval. The method schedules the sharing protocols to operate during their respective intervals going forward, and switches between the sharing protocols in accordance with the schedule. In certain embodiments, switching between the sharing protocols includes temporarily operating in a hybrid mode in which multiple sharing protocols operate simultaneously. When using this hybrid mode, the switch may occur when one sharing protocol begins to perform better than the other. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a light and sound sensor system and method for repetitively measuring the luminance, chromaticity, sound, and infrared illumination in a theater to detect any changes thereto so that the images being viewed on the screen and the sound in the theater can be kept at their optimal values. In addition, in a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the system has an audio and video synchronization capability. By monitoring the audio and visual signals in real time, the exact time relationship between the signals is detected to determine whether they are properly synchronized.

Abstract: A system for adjusting the light uniformity of a monitor. The system comprises a camera for capturing a test pattern image on a display of the monitor and a controller configured to select the test pattern image and to cause the monitor to display the selected test pattern image. The controller receives the captured image from the camera and compares pixel values from the captured image to known pixel values associated with the selected test pattern image. The selected test pattern image has an ideal uniform light distribution and the captured image has a non-uniform light distribution. In response to the comparison, the controller calculates a compensation light distribution that may be combined with the non-uniform light distribution to generate a resulting image on the display of the monitor having a resulting light distribution that approximates the ideal uniform light distribution.

Abstract: A method of diagnosing problems experienced with remote control operation of electronic devices includes monitoring background noise signals with a receiver of a signal processing electronic device, such as a set-top box, for use in receiving and rendering multimedia content via a separate display monitor. The electronic device has an internal remote control unit enabling remote control of the signal processing electronic device via wireless signals emitted from a separate remote controller. The background noise signals are analyzed with a signal processing unit residing in the electronic device. From the analysis, the electronic device generates a representation with respect to the background noise signals. The representation may be provided to the end user, technician or call center operator in a readily understandable form for purposes of readily verifying a noise interference problem and providing guidance with respect to mitigation. A device, such as a set-top box, is also disclosed.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus enable ATSC-M/H mobile devices to conserve power by entering a high power state at a slot reception start time that is after the start of an ATSC M/H slot and entering a low power state at a slot reception stop time before the end of the ATSC M/H slot. Data lost due to the device being in a low power state during the time between the start time of the ATSC M/H slot and the activation time and during the time between the deactivation time and the end of the ATSC M/H slot are recovered using error correction processing. The slot receive and slot reception stop times may be based on the received signal quality. The receiver circuitry may also be deactivated when the entire payload has been received and skip reception of remaining slots.
