Patent number: 10446860Abstract: A method of manufacturing a plate for a fuel cell includes the steps of providing flow channels in a fuel cell plate. Multiple fuel cell plates are joined into a cell stack assembly. A blocking plate is affixed to the fuel cell plate and at least partially obstructs the flow channels. The blocking plate is affixed to the fuel cell plate after the plates have been arranged into the cell stack assembly. The resulting fuel cell provides a fuel cell plate having a perimeter with an edge. The fuel cell plate includes flow channels extending to the edge. The blocking plate is affixed to the fuel cell plate at the edge to at least partially block the flow channel. In this manner, an inexpensive fuel cell plate may be used, and the blocking plate can be configured to create terminated flow channels, which may be used to provide an interdigitated flow field.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2011Date of Patent: October 15, 2019Assignee: AUDI AGInventors: Thomas H. Patent number: 9979298Abstract: A rectifier bridge circuit includes a first SCR/IGBT switch and a second SCR/IGBT switch coupled to a circuit input to receive an ac input voltage. The first and second SCR/IGBT switches are alternatively switchable to generate a rectified voltage at a circuit output. Control currents coupled to control terminals of the first and second SCR/IGBT switches are power supply sourced from an auxiliary dc source generated by rectifying the ac input voltage. The control currents are generated by current sources coupled between the auxiliary dc source and the control terminals of the first and second SCR/IGBT switches. The current sources are selectively activatable to produce gating currents for switching on and off the first and second SCR/IGBT switches. A controller unit is provided to control the current sources via level shifter circuits. The control implements progressive conduction time of the first and second SCR/IGBT switches so as to provide inrush current limitation.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2016Date of Patent: May 22, 2018Assignees: STMicroelectronics S.r.l., STMicroelectronics (Tours) SASInventors: Roberto Larosa, Giulio Zoppi, Laurent Gonthier

Patent number: 5151846Abstract: The rectifier sub-assembly, formed by high temperature brazing, is glass encapsulated. It has axially extending leads with enlarged head portions. The sub-assembly is prepared for surface mounting by first flattening the leads outwardly from the enlarged head portions. An electrically insulating, heat conductive epoxy body is molded around the capsule, the enlarged head portions and at least a portion of each of the flattened lead sections. The leads are trimmed and if required, bent into the appropriate shape. After forming, the leads are barrel plated to obtain the best solderable surface for the most reliable electrical connection.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1991Date of Patent: September 29, 1992Assignee: General Instrument Corp.Inventors: Mohammad Sedigh, Richard Shyr, Edward Shih, Muni Mitchell

Patent number: 4829406Abstract: An electrical device designed for leadless surface mounting on a PC board has molding compound which surrounds the electrical component and is so shaped as to have an outer surface which defines a flat, so that when the device is placed on the board it will remain in proper location and not roll away. An appropriately shaped mold is provided to accommodate the shape the molding compound simultaneously for a plurality of devices.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1988Date of Patent: May 9, 1989Assignee: General Instrument Corp.Inventor: Michael Korwin-Pawlowski

Patent number: 4564885Abstract: A rectifier designed for leadless surface mounting on a P.C. board has a cylindrical body situated between two disk-like end parts. The end parts extend radially beyond the surface of the body defining a recess adapted to receive epoxy compound. A plurality of rectifiers are situated end-to-end within elongated cylindrical cavities in a mold. The end parts cooperate with the cavity walls to seal each individual recess when the mold halves are closed. Openings in the cavity wall aligned with each recess permit epoxy compound to enter each recess and be cured. Leads may be attached to the end parts after the molding operation to convert the rectifier into an axial lead device, if required.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1984Date of Patent: January 14, 1986Assignee: General Instrument CorporationInventor: T. Patent number: 4160287Abstract: The invention concerns an electrolyzer power supply, especially for use in the industrial production of hydrogen. It is constituted by four sub-assemblies placed side-by-side in a filter-press type structure. These sub-assemblies each comprise electrodes coupled two by two, electrolytic compartments being defined between two groups of electrodes. One group of these electrodes, preferably half of them being made of a metal that has a rectifying effect on AC current, and preferably being aluminum, aluminum-zinc alloys, niobium or tantalum. The counter-electrodes are adapted to evolve oxygen. They are preferably iron, nickel or carbon.
