  • Patent number: 8682458
Abstract: A spa control system designed to reduce maintenance cost by providing modular construction for major control functions, with built-in diagnostic capabilities for isolating defective spa components. Multi-colored LEDs on the spaside panel constantly report the status of each component of the spa as well as the status of the functional modules themselves. Each time a component is activated, measurements of operational parameters, such as load currents, are instantly made and evaluated so that the proper LED color can be presented at the spaside. Since major functions such as audio, LED control, wireless, and spa logic are separated into removable modules, repair of the control system requires less time and less skilled personnel. Other design improvements, such as direct monitoring of heater element temperature and the purging of pumps on an as required-basis, enhance the spa's overall reliability and thus reduce the need for maintenance.

Abstract: The present invention provides a gas-controlled floating structure for bubble tubes. It is related to a plastic disk composed of a ring and a cover. On the rim of the ring is a plurality of airflow grooves arranged in an equidistant manner. In the bottom of the cover is a concave air storage chamber. When the plastic disk is fitted into a bubble tube, the concave air storage chamber will be facing the tube base next to the lampshade, while keeping a suitable distance away from the arc-shaped surface of the tube base. Once the light bulb under the tube base senses the heat, the arc-shaped surface of the tube base will be heated up by the covering disk. Bubbles appear, whenever hot air starts to accumulate in the concave air storage chamber. The emerging bubbles then rise gradually through the equidistant airflow grooves installed on the rim of the ring. Eventually, owing to the accumulation of hot air, bubbles will be flowing in an esthetic manner.

Abstract: The invention relates to a backlight unit for liquid crystal displays, etc.; and its object is to provide a backlight unit not involving the problem that the emitted light leaks out of the optical waveguide, even when the space around the cold-cathode tubes in the light source unit for it is filled with a liquid of which the refractive index is nearly the same as that of the glass material that forms the outer wall of the cold-cathode tubes. The backlight unit comprises a housing 6 which houses cold-cathode tubes 2, 4 therein and of which the inner surface is coated with a light reflector 10; a transparent liquid filled in the housing 6; and an optical waveguide 1 made of a transparent substance and having a light-emitting surface S.

  • Patent number: 6619811
Abstract: A cup includes a transparent body having an inner and an outer wall to define an annular hollow space between them, a bottom sealing a lower end of the body and the annular hollow space, an open-bottomed chamber formed below the body to communicate with the annular hollow space via an opening provided on the bottom, a luminous strip with printed pictures, words or patterns enclosed in the annular hollow space, a driving circuit mounted in the chamber to electrically connect to the luminous strip and parallelly connected to a vibrating-type switch, and a lower cover detachably closing the chamber. When the cup is vibrated to make the vibrating-type switch, the luminous strip is lightened for the pictures, words or patterns to produce cold light that is refracted by the outer wall of the body to show three-dimensional images on the cup.

  • Patent number: 6511196
Abstract: An illuminated message or design is displayed on the surface of an inner container for viewing through an outer container. Light emitting diodes are placed under the outer container, and near its perimeter, allowing the light to be directly introduced into the peripheral wall cavity formed between the inner container and outer container. This allows optimal utilization of the light for lighting the inner container surface generally, and for directing a portion of the light to the inner container's bottom edge for entrapment within the inner container peripheral wall. The entrapped light is transmitted through the inner container peripheral wall until the light encounters a nonconformity that redirects the light outwardly through the outer container. Varying inner container shapes interact with the light and create several distinct light mantles.

  • Patent number: 6450655
Abstract: An illuminating and viewing unit for illuminating the interior of a vessel with source radiation and observing the vessel interior comprises a housing including a front wall facing the vessel interior. The front wall is of a material that does not transmit the source radiation, and includes one or more illumination ports individually fused into the front wall that transmit the source radiation to the vessel interior. A detection port is also individually fused into the front wall for transmitting detectable radiation along a detection path from the vessel interior to a radiation detector mounted in the housing. The optical isolation of the illumination and detection ports in the front wall prevents unwanted internal reflection of source radiation into the detection path, and allows for independent selection of port materials and configurations, while maintaining a hermetic seal between the housing and the internal contents of the vessel.

  • Patent number: 6450677
Abstract: A fiberoptic lighting system includes a remotely located light source with one or more fiberoptic cables extending therefrom. The cables may be linked with various coupler and splitter devices to link additional cables to the light source, and to provide a series of light emitting fixtures at the distal ends of the cable runs. The present system is particularly well suited for use in emergency situations, where a fuel, chemical, explosive, or other hazardous spill has occurred, as in a gasoline truck accident. The remotely located light source is placed well clear of the hazardous spill area, where it is immune to explosive, fire, and/or other hazards which might exist closer to the hazard area. The light source of the present system thus need not require fireproof and explosive proof certification and periodic recertification, thus saving considerable costs for the users of the device.

Abstract: A pool safety lighting system is designed for use in diving swimming pools, in particular, which have a shallow portion connected to a deep portion by an intermediate sloping wall. To reduce the risk of injury for persons diving into the pool, either using a diving board or diving from the edge, colored warning lights are placed in the bottom of the pool, typically with a green light in the deepest portion and a red light at the transition from an intermediate portion to the shallowest portion, with a yellow light located on the intermediate rising portion between the deep part of the pool and the shallowest part. The light delivery system ideally is a fiber optic cable system supplying light to fiber optic cables terminating in the bottom of the pool and supplied with light from a source remote from the pool.
