Abstract: Some aspects of what is described here relate to managing the use of network resources on a mobile device. User input received at the device indicates whether to allow an application associated with a first perimeter on the device to access a network resource associated with a second perimeter on the device. For example, in some instances user input may indicate whether to allow data from applications associated with a personal perimeter on the device to be transmitted over an enterprise communication system. When outbound data associated with the first perimeter are received, the device determines, according to the indication from the user input, whether to route the outbound data to the network resource associated with the second perimeter.

Abstract: The present invention provides for a system and method for blocking leakage signals and uncoupling connections in a communication system. A leakage signal (LS) blocking splitter employs a high-pass filter which effectively blocks the lower frequency leakage signal. A detect and terminate function detects service on the communication connection to which each one of the LS filters are coupled to. The detect and terminate function detects service on the communication connection to ensure that each LS blocking splitter is coupled to an in-service communication connection. If the communication connection becomes out-of-service, the detect and terminate functions automatically uncouple the respective LS filter from the communication connections so that the LS filter cannot introduce undesirable harmonics into the communication system. In an alternative embodiment, the detect and terminate function may insert an impedance matching element in addition to uncoupling the LS filter.

  • Patent number: 7020455
Abstract: The invention protects the security of a communication between a mobile radio and a radio access network (RAN). A connection is established through the RAN to support a communication with the mobile radio. The connection is configured with a first security configuration. One or more messages are sent over the connection using the first security configuration, each message having a message sequence number. When the connection needs to be configured to a second security configuration, an activation message sequence number associated with the reconfiguration is set. When the reconfiguration process is complete and the second security configuration is to be activated, the next message is sent over the connection with the activation message sequence number. Until that time and during the reconfiguration, when the mobile radio transmits a message with a message sequence number lower than the activation message sequence number to the RAN, it uses the first security configuration.

  • Patent number: 6954632
Abstract: A home network system that makes it possible to build a network with assured security, wherein network users need not have security expertise. For access attempts offered from a home node 21-1 in a community area network 5-1 toward an outside public network 1 through a path N2, a security server 11-1 need not execute an authentication process. The home node 21-1 rejects access attempts directly transferred from the public network 1. The security server 11-1 executes the authentication process for an access attempt transferred from the public network 1 through a path N42. When the authentication is successful, connection of the access attempt to the home node 21-1 through a path N9 is permitted.

  • Patent number: 6721408
Abstract: A system and method provide the capability for a visitor to a home or business to leave an audio message for the occupants if they are not present. Outside the home or building, an interface may be provided which is proximate to a doorbell which a visitor may employ when notification by the doorbell has proved unsuccessful. Actuation of a switch on the interface may activate a messaging system which will retrieve a stored phone number and establish a telephonic connection over a telephone network. The telephonic connection may be with a voice messaging system which, in turn, will broadcast via a speaker incorporated into the user interface, a greeting recorded by the occupant. At the end of the greeting, a visitor may then speak into a microphone incorporated into the user interface, and record an audio message. The controller may further be programmed to establish a telephonic connection remotely located between the visitor interface and a telephone.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a thermal management system for a thin depth LCD display enclosure. The LCD display enclosure may be used in environmentally sensitive conditions and may be environmentally-sealed to protect the components of the LCD display from environmental conditions. The LCD display components may include a lens and a LCD module, and other heating producing components, such as backlights and electronic circuitry. The heat producing components and any external heat placed on the enclosure causes the ambient air temperature inside the enclosure to rise thereby possibly causing the LCD display to not operate properly. The ambient air temperature inside the enclosure is lowered by transferring heat in the ambient air through the enclosure to a heat sink that is attached on the outside rear portion of the enclosure, and to the atmosphere using forced convection, natural convention, or both.

  • Patent number: 6381322
Abstract: A system for providing call precedence for incoming telephone calls received by a switching system for a telephone station that has a plurality of lines connected to said telephone station. The system of this invention receives an incoming telephone call having a first priority level for the telephone station. The system of this invention then determines whether the telephone station has an available line. If the telephone station does not have an available line, it is determined whether the telephone station has an active call connected to the telephone station. If an active call is connected the telephone station, a signal is transmitted indicating a priority incoming call responsive to a determination that said telephone station has an active call. The system then wait to receive a response from the telephone station. If a response is received, a connection of the incoming call to the telephone station is established.

  • Patent number: 6321094
Abstract: In a network system including a wireless mobile communications system, when establishing a connection between a wireless mobile terminal and a host computer connected to a stationary network system, the wireless mobile terminal produces a connection establishment request signal including first information which is required to obtain services from the host computer and then transmits the connection establishment request signal to the host computer. The host computer verifies the first information included in the connection establishment request signal received from the wireless mobile terminal and transmits a response signal back to the wireless mobile terminal only when the first information has been verified. This causes the connection to be established between the wireless mobile terminal and the host computer.

  • Patent number: 6275573
Abstract: Secured connections are provided over a telephone access network using encryption/decryption equipment installed at a customer's premises and at a network facility. For outbound calls, the access network is secured before the destination number or any other critical information is sent over the access network. Inbound calls are routed through a secure center to prevent the identification of the calling party and to secure these communications over the access network. By providing encryption/decryption equipment at the network facility, the system provides secured connections over the access network regardless of whether the remote party is secured. The system also may be configured to provide end-to-end secured connections.
