  • Patent number: 9300794
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for providing universal access to caller-specific ringtones are described. A universal address book server is implemented that contains user-specific address books for users of a communications network. Each address book includes ringtones associated with contacts and groups defined in the address book. The universal address book server also provides a synchronization service to the communication devices of each user allowing the communication devices to synchronize the ringtones associated with the contacts and groups between the user's address book on the universal address book server and a local storage of the ringtones in the communication device.

  • Patent number: 9258514
Abstract: In a user interface method, system and device in a multitasking environment, it is possible for a user to view all of a plurality of simultaneously executed applications by assigning different display areas to the plurality of applications. In the method, system and device, priorities of applications already being executed and of additional applications for which execution is requested are determined, and a display area size is determined and assigned to each application according to its priority. The system comprises a set-top box for performing the latter functions and a user terminal for transmitting a user request, while the device comprises a control unit for performing the latter functions.

  • Patent number: 9215326
Abstract: The present invention provides flexible, user-definable call screening processes. The user can optionally define to which telecommunication terminals a screened call is to be broadcast to and under what conditions. An incoming call is forwarded to a call management system that asks the caller to leave a voice message. The call management system selectively couples the call to a POTS line or a VoIP-capable device so that the user can listen to the incoming message and thereby screen the incoming call. Based on the screening, the user can instruct the call management system to connect the caller to the user.

  • Patent number: 9160861
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are disclosed that manage the held calls for an off-premises terminal at the system that extends calls to the terminal, such as a private branch exchange or other type of data-processing system, instead of at the system that is receiving the extended calls, such as a mobile switching center at which a cell phone is registered. The disclosed technique is based on the observation that the extending system knows of an incoming call to an off-premises terminal before the receiving system. As a result, the extending system can advantageously select the calls that it holds versus the calls that it sends to the receiving system. The extending system can control the routing costs and provide a consistent look-and-feel of call control to the off-premises terminal user.

  • Patent number: 9124693
Abstract: An Off Net scenario may occur during primary communications between a first and second caller, in which the second caller is connected to a network over a data channel and receives a second call over a voice channel resulting in an interruption of the primary communications between the original callers. In the Off Net scenario, a message indicating the original communication has been interrupted is received by a carrier. The carrier substitutes another communication device in place of the second caller's communication device to establish a secondary communication between the first caller's communication device and the third communication device. The secondary communication may inform the first caller of the interruption of the primary communication and may provide options regarding the primary communication to the first caller.
