Abstract: A bearing directed to a bushing positioned within a housing that is positively retained to prevent the bushing from moving axially with respect to the housing and that also prevents the bushing from rotating relative to the housing. The present embodiment accomplishes these goals by the use of a retention pin that positively retains the bushing within the housing.

  • Patent number: 6494622
Abstract: A reliable bearing wheel assembly comprising a shaft, an inner race, an outer race, and rollers or other bearing elements between the inner and outer races, wherein the inner race is reliably prevented from both rotating and moving axially relative to the shaft, even when there is bearing failure. A first pair of axially extending grooves are provided in the outer surface of an end portion of the shaft and in the inner surface of the inner race respectively which in combination define a first keyway. A second pair of axially extending grooves are provided in the outer surface of the shaft end portion and in the inner surface of the inner race respectively which in combination define a second keyway. A first key is received in the first keyway. A fastener having a threaded shank portion threadedly engages a threaded bore which extends axially in the shaft end portion. A head portion of the fastener engages the inner race and at least partially covers the first keyway to block escape of the first key therefrom.

Abstract: A vehicle transmission is provided having a housing that includes a support with an opening. The transmission also has a shaft with an axis of rotation and an end portion disposed within the support opening. A floating bearing assembly is arranged between the housing and the end portion so that the bearing assembly supports the end portion within the support opening thereby permitting the shaft to rotate about it axis within the support opening. The bearing assembly is movable along the axis of rotation relative to the housing to permit the shaft to move along the axis of rotation. An expansion member is arranged between the end portion and the housing to expand and contract with changing temperatures and maintain a desired end play tolerance between the end portion and the housing.

  • Patent number: 6113275
Abstract: A sliding bearing for supporting shafts and the like, with a bearing body made of plastic and a housing supporting the bearing body, where the sliding bearing essentially encloses the full circumference of the shaft. The bearing body (1) displays a slit (2) extending along the entire length of its axis and at least one deformable zone, likewise extending along the entire length of the axis, which allows the slit (2) to be opened so that the bearing body (1) can essentially be fitted to the shaft, and also removed from the shaft, in the radial direction. This drastically reduces the work involved in replacing the bearing body during repairs. The bearing body (1) can comprise individual webs (3) which are connected to one another via deformable zones designed as flexible film bridges (6) which can be locked in place in the housing by means of projections (7) provided on the webs (3).

Abstract: A hydrodynamic oil film system is disclosed for developing a lubricant film between a flywheel and an associated stationary bearing during press machine operation. Hydrostatic bearing pads formed in the inner bearing surface of the stationary bearing are used to receive pressurized fluid. A hydrodynamic effect is produced during rotation of the flywheel enabling fluid transmitted into the hydrostatic bearing pads to be provided within the clearance between the flywheel and the stationary bearing. In another aspect, an oil film is produced between the keyed sections of the stationary bearing and an adjacent bearing support block to which the stationary bearing is interengaged for anti-rotational purposes, thereby preventing pounding out of the material from the key surfaces.

Abstract: A bearing includes an annular rubber-like member having a metal sleeve bonded on the inside diameter. One or more collars are sweated onto a shaft and provide one component of a lug and groove torque connection, the metal sleeve providing the other component. In one embodiment, a polymer liner is cooled and then inserted into the stern tube. When the polymer liner warms to ambient temperature, it expands into engagement with the stern tube and provides a surface for bearing engagement with the rubber-like member. Liners of this type are easily removed by removing the bearing, drilling a hole through the side wall of the liner parallel to the axis of the bearing and then pulling the weakened liner from the stern tube.
