Patent number: 5859676Abstract: A transparency viewing device including a faceplate adapted for mounting at least one transparency thereon, an LCD array defining an array of pixels, a driver which selectively varies the transparency of the pixels, a source of back illumination for the LCD array wherein the LCD is substantially effective to effectively block light within a relatively limited range of angles around the normal to the LCD and is relatively ineffective to block light reaching it from angles outside the limited range of angles and a light detector which views the array from an angle outside the range of angles at which the LCD is substantially effective to block the light.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1996Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Assignee: Smartlight Ltd.Inventors: Dan Inbar, Hanan Wolf, Benzion Levy

Patent number: 5836096Abstract: View box apparatus is provided for illuminating a film containing a medical diagnostic image for radiologic observation and study. A light source is contained within the view box, at one end thereof, and a transparent plate is positioned at the other end for supporting the imaging film. A panel of material is positioned in the box between the light source and the transparent plate to diffuse light from the source, and one or more layers of a microprism film is positioned between the diffuser panel and the imaging film. The microprism film layer reflects light rays which are incident thereon at an angle less than a critical angle back into the view box, so that such light rays do not pass through the microprism film to illuminate the imaging film. Light rays incident upon the microprism film which are greater than the critical angle are refracted by the microprism film, to provide light for illuminating the imaging film having a solid angle which is much less than the solid angle of light from the diffuser.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1996Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Inventor: William R. Brauer

Patent number: 5835173Abstract: A transparency viewing device including a faceplate adapted for mounting at least one transparency thereon, an LCD array having a given chromaticity underlying the faceplate, a source of backlighting for the LCD array having a variable chromaticity and a controller which controls the chromaticity of the backlighting source based on the chromaticity of the light passing through the film and the LCA.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1996Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Assignee: Smartlight LtdInventors: Dan Inbar, Hanan Wolf, Benzion Levi

Patent number: 5818624Abstract: A radiographic film mask includes a planar sheet sized for receipt on an illuminated radiographic film examination box. The mask has two opaque sections and a transparent section. The transparent section is disposed on the sheet between the two opaque sections to form a radiographic film viewing area which has an area less than the entire area of the sheet. The sheet may include semi-transparent sections which border the viewing area and interconnect the opaque portions to provide reduced transmission of light along the marginal edges of the radiographic film.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1995Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Inventors: John Patterson, Raynor Sturgis, Hugh Walborn, Lawrence Wilhelm
