  • Patent number: 8201801
Abstract: A sign bracket for over-road highway signs and other signs. The bracket is comprised of a first assembly attached to the sign and a second assembly attached to a support structure. A shear pin prevents relative movement between the first assembly and second assembly in its normal state. When sufficient pressure is exerted on the sign the shear pin shears and the first assembly is freed to rotate the sign approximately ninety degrees. The sign is essentially laid flat either face up from wind force striking the face of the sign or face down from wind striking the rear of the sign. When the sign is laid flat it produces substantially reduced wind resistance and the support structure remains intact. The sign may then easily re-erected by insertion of a new shear pin.

  • Patent number: 4999938
Abstract: A construction or emergency sign with a changeable message on its front surface. The sign has a diamond shape or a square shape and one or more flaps are secured along the central diagonal of the sign. The flaps are adapted to be releasably fastened to either of two opposite corners of the sign and have messages on both sides. When the flaps are secured in one corner, a first message is presented and when the flaps are secured in the other corner, a second message is presented. A pair of cross-braces hold the sign in a taut planar configuration. The sign is also adapted to be collapsed into a small, compact package for transport and storage. One embodiment of the sign has two or more flaps thus allowing three or more different messages to be presented. Another embodiment has an additional cross-brace allowing the sign to be used to present either diamond or square-shaped messages.

  • Patent number: 4957258
Abstract: A stand for motionably mounting advertisements, such as placards or the like. The stand comprises a foot-structure (1) placed on the ground and a mount (4) for advertisements such as placards, signs or the like resting on the foot-structure (1) by means of a pendulum support having an approximately horizontal swing axis. A pendulum weight (8) is attached to the mount (4) or the advertisement below the swing axis of the pendulum support. Preferably the pendulum support is equipped with an adjustably pressed brake-disk or a return spring means (11). The return spring means advantageously delivers a return force and frictional damping only beyond a predetermined value a deviation.

Abstract: A sign stand for supporting signs in windy environments includes a base, a staff portion extended from the base and an upper portion for receiving and displaying a sign. The sign stand includes a mechanism permitting pivoting of the sign to spill wind load and includes a mechanism for applying a restoring force to restore the sign to its normal vertical position on removal of the wind load. The restoring mechanism may be incorporated in the base structure and can utilize a tension spring to provide the restoring force.

  • Patent number: 4912865
Abstract: A display sign embodying the present invention has a normally vertical display panel having first and second sides and at least one face, between the sides, for information. A base supports the panel. First and second side supports are mounted on the base and are positioned adjacent to the first and second sides, respectively. First and second horizontally spaced apart pivots support the display panel on the first side support and first and second horizontally spaced apart pivots support the display panel on the second side support. The display panel rotates about a first axis of rotation through the first pivots as the display panel is forced to move in a first direction and the display panel rotates about a second axis of rotation through the second pivots, as the display panel is forced to move in a second direction from the vertical.

  • Patent number: 4910898
Abstract: A sign carrying device having a rotatable super-structure with panels pivotally mounted therein and which pivot in response to wind pressure applied on their surfaces. A footing has a base section mounted therein which rotatably receives an upper section with the superstructure mounted thereon. Shear pins placed between the upper and base sections prevent rotation of the upper section until a predetermined rotational torque is placed thereon. The superstructure mounted on the upper section has a plurality of panels pivotally mounted thereon with spring hinges which allow deflection of the panels in response to wind pressure on the panel surfaces to allow the wind to pass through the superstructure and reduce the risk of damage to the device. The spring hinges cause the panels to return to their normally closed position when there is little or no wind.
