Including Type-faces Movable Relative To Type-face-carrier Patents (Class 400/140)
  • Patent number: 7396171
Abstract: A printing machine for use with paper roll stock is disclosed. The print head consists of an expandable cylindrical ring print head where the printing brushes are integrated in a spiral pattern around the ring print head. Ink wells are located outside of the print head, and electromagnets, located outside of the ring print head, attract or repel the print brushes towards or away from the ink wells or paper. The printing machine is ideally suited for advertising or other elongated print media. Due to the use of standard paper roll stock and speed of the printing, signs can be printed on demand and displayed in a real-time basis. Two printing machines can be configured to print on both sides of the paper at the same time with the same or different images being printed on each side.

  • Patent number: 6755125
Abstract: A marking device (10) comprises a frame (1) (of frame plates (12,14)) to which are fixed first and second motors (16,18). A carriage frame (40) is pivoted in the frame about a screw axis (22). A marking head (30) is mounted on the carriage frame for movement in a direction parallel the screw axis. A drive screw (20) is rotationally mounted in the frame along the screw axis and is driven by the first motor (16). The carriage frame is journalled on said drive screw to permit said pivoting about the screw axis. The marking head is driven by rotation of the screw, the carriage frame being pivoted by the second motor. The carriage frame (20) comprises a bar (32) on which the marking head slides. The bar is disposed parallel the drive screw. The bar has at each end an arm (34,36) pivoted on bearings (35,37) on the drive screw. One arm (36) has an extension (66) fixed to a belt (58) disposed around two idler pulleys (62,64) and a motor pulley (60) driven by the second motor.

  • Patent number: 4534665
Abstract: A multicolor serial printer has a color switching means interposed between an end of a carriage and type wheels having a group of first-color printing types and a group of second-color printing types. The color switching means has first-color and second color printing stepped surfaces selectively movable into confronting relationship with a member of the carriage. When the member of the carriage abuts on and engages in a first-color printing stepped surface or a second-color printing stepped surface during carriage shifting movement, a presser of a hammer means, mounted on the carriage and positioned within the type wheels, is brought into confronting relation to the group of first-color printing types or the group of second-color printing types for printing a desired character in the group in a first or second color.

  • Patent number: 4422783
Abstract: A holder (10) for stamps (20) used to imprint identifying characters into the surface of a material which can be magnetized. The holder includes a frame (12) having a channel (18) formed therein to receive the stamps, which are held in place therein by means of a rod (28) which is received through holes (34, 36) formed in end plates (30, 32) attached to the frame, and through groves (24) formed in the stamps. A punch (66) held by a cylindrical holder (60) is inserted in holes (58) formed in the frame above the stamps and is struck by a hammer or the like to imprint the characters formed on the stamps into the surface. The holder is held in position on the surface by means of magnets (46, 48) which are adjustably attached to support assemblies (14, 16) attached to the end plates.

  • Patent number: 4159471
Abstract: A "Binary Compatible Character" consisting of nine straight line segments and a dot is provided. Subsets of the ten elements of the character form digits of the base-16 numbering system, letters of several alphabets, punctuation marks, mathematical operators, and phonemes. The invention covers simplified apparatus for reading the characters and forming the characters. A ten key keyboard incorporating parity check, a ten hammer composite printing head, and a ten photodetector reading head are prime elements of the invention. The combination of printer, printed matter, and reader constitute a data storage system for which the data may be most easily edited by a human using only an eraser and pencil.
