  • Patent number: 11947734
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for force sensing, and an electronic device. The apparatus includes at least one first sensor, at least one second sensor, and a comparator. The at least one first sensor generates a first signal, the at least one second sensor generates a second signal, and the comparator receives both the first signal and the second signal. The first signal is determined by deformation of a deformable portion and temperature at the deformable portion, and the second signal is determined by the temperature at the deformable portion. The comparator determines whether the deformable portion deforms based on the first signal, the second signal, and the threshold signal, and further generates the third signal which is in the active state in response to the determination being positive. The apparatus can make an accurate response when the deformation of the deformable portion serves as an input operation.

Abstract: There is provided a liquid discharge apparatus including: a liquid discharge head having a nozzle surface; a carriage; a carriage mover; a conveyor conveying a medium in a conveyance direction; a velocity sensor; a distance sensor; and a controller. The controller makes a determination regarding the velocity of the carriage based on output of the velocity sensor, and makes a determination regarding the distance between the medium and the nozzle surface based on output of the distance sensor. In a case that that the controller determines that the velocity is less than a predetermined velocity and that the distance is less than a predetermined distance, the controller interrupts recording performed by the liquid discharge head.

Abstract: A print head protection system is used in connection with an inkjet printer having a print head adapted for elevating, and a belt moving over a platen. A plurality of acoustic sensors is arrayed transversely to the process direction. The acoustic sensors measure a combined thickness of the belt, the platen, and the media sheet. An analyzer will detect if the media sheet is in contact with the media transport. An error signal is created when the thickness is below a predetermined value, indicating the media sheet is not in contact with the media transport. A mitigation control is operative to mitigate print head damage in response to the signal. Printing is halted in response to the signal to preclude damage to the print head. The sheet is discarded.

  • Patent number: 7083245
Abstract: A reliable detection of optically detecting the type of recording media is achieved. A part of a support member for supporting an optical sensor is pushed against the surface of a sheet by a spring so as to maintain the gap between the sensor and the sheet surface. With this arrangement, a recording apparatus which is free from wrong detection is achieved regardless of a gap-varying factor, that is, the remaining amount of sheets. Also, by arranging a part of a light-shielding hood so as to abut against the sheet, wrong detection due to disturbance light can be prevented.

Abstract: A dynamic registration device for a mailing system that reduces the problems of dust generation, ink smearing, and print head contact is provided. The biasing force normally applied to the back panel of a mail piece, such that the front panel maintains contact with a registration plate, is controlled by an actuator such that the force can be removed when the printing module is not performing the actual printing process. Thus, the biasing force can be applied only when the print head is actually printing and the biasing force can be removed once printing has been completed. In other embodiments utilizing multiple printing modules, when one of the printing modules is inactivated, the biasing force can be removed, and the mail pieces pass through the inactive printing module without being registered against the top registration plate.

Abstract: The present invention provides a gap adjusting device that allows gap adjustment with a small torque and also allows more gap positions to be set. The gap adjusting device rotates bushing members so as to change level (PG) of carriage guide shafts for guiding a carriage. An intermediate gear that engages with the bushing members has a boss to be inserted into a cam groove formed in a slidable member that can slide. In accordance with a sliding operation of the slidable member 51, PG is changed. The weights of the carriage and the carriage guide shafts are transmitted to the boss via the bushing members and the intermediate gear and therefore the boss is pushed against a sidewall of the cam groove to be in contact with the sidewall, thereby PG is maintained. Therefore, the slidable member 51 can be caused to slide with a small torque.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to an apparatus (i.e. an automatic teller machine) comprising an optical sensor. The optical sensor is configured to detect thickness of paper. Advantages of some embodiments of the present invention are that by determining a thickness of paper, it can be confirmed that two pieces of paper are not stuck together. For example, if two substantially identical pieces of paper are stuck together, then their thickness will be approximately twice the thickness of a single sheet. Accordingly, upon detection of two or more sheets of paper stuck together, a device, that automatically handles paper, may cause the sheets of paper to be separated.
