  • Patent number: 6499766
Abstract: A media folder or book binder provided with a rotor having elastic bands stretched between pins on its opposite ends has mounting brackets which are mechanically fastened to the spine of the folder. The brackets have trunnions facing inwardly toward the opposite ends of the rotor to journal the rotor. An important aspect of the invention is that each bracket is provided with a shroud which inhibits or prevents bands from disengaging with their supporting pins as a folded sheet is removed from or installed on the rotor under a strand of the band. In effect, winding-up of the bands during relative lateral movement of a sheet still occurs, but the adverse twisting affect of enabling the bands to slip off pins is prevented. The folder has straps fixed thereto and preferably formed integrally therewith at opposite ends of the folder's spine. These straps interact with latches on the mounting brackets to firmly hold the brackets in place mechanically.

  • Patent number: 6394684
Abstract: A binder, with a first panel and at least one fastener. The fastener has a base attached to the panel and a binding member positionable in a closed position defining a closed loop, and in an open position in which the loop is open for mounting and dismounting sheets thereto. A lock is disposed in close proximity with the base and in releasable locking association with the binding member in the closed position. A lever is operatively connected with the lock such that depressing the lever in an unlocking direction causes the lock to release the binding member from the closed position.

  • Patent number: 5921693
Abstract: A binding system for loose-leaf sheets of paper that securely retains the paper and provides facile removal and addition of paper bound by the system is provided. The system provides a variable width binding, for addition and removal of papers, and a flexible spine. A plurality of resilient connecting members extend arcuately between first and second backing members, when the system is in an open position. The connecting members extend through openings in an adjustment assembly coupled to the second backing member. The adjustment assembly is provided for simultaneously increasing and decreasing the length of the connecting members, and for maintaining the connecting members at different desired lengths for binding paper with the system or removing paper from the system. Paper having a plurality of slots is positioned on a cover, with a connecting member extending through each slot.

  • Patent number: 5242236
Abstract: A holder for holding a plurality of sheets formed with holes adjacent at least one of their edges, comprising: a backing member; at least one slide slidable along each end of a track extending along the width of the upper end of the backing member; and a cord or pair of cords carried by at least one slide and receivable through the openings of a plurality of sheets. The cords include mating connectors at one end to permit the plurality of sheets to be secured together, while the opposite ends of the cords are secured to a length-varying device enabling the effective lengths of the cords to be varied according to the number of sheets to be secured by the cords. In one described embodiment, the length-varying device is a "Velcro" hook and loop fastener; and in a second described embodiment, it is a reel.

  • Patent number: 4909651
Abstract: This invention relates to a portable file for form feeds paper, which is comprised of an upper and a lower cover board, each having an integrally made channel bar for setting therein of flexible cords at both ends to let the flexible cords insert through the perforations of form feeds paper document. By means of retainer means to slide in the channel bars, the flexible cords may be pulled out for insertion into the perforations of form feeds paper or may be retained by the retainer means in the channel bars respectively. A hanger is provided and attached to the lower cover board by means of rivets, such that the file may be hanging on a storage stand with form feeds paper document carried by the file.

  • Patent number: 4775257
Abstract: An expandable loose-leaf binder for releaseable insertion of perforated paper sheets consisting of two separate perforated covers joined by means of separate flaccid lace sheet retainers. Each retainer has a small, capsule-shaped connector which can be drawn through the sheet perforations and opened at any place in the binder to insert a sheet. An elastic band which may be adjusted or removed without releasing the retainers is used to take up slack.

  • Patent number: 4714366
Abstract: Individual fasteners are provided for each of several pre-determined holes along a margin of pages of a document for securing the pages together at the holes, each fastener including: a relatively rigid cylindrical insert having a head at one end, the diameter of the insert cylinder being less than the diameter of the holes in the page and the diameter of the head being greater than the diameter of the holes; an elastic member such as a rubber elastic extending from the insert to a bar and attached to the center of the bar, the length of the insert cylinder being less than the minimum thickness of pages to be bound by the fastener and the length of the cylinder plus the length of the bar being greater than the maximum thickness of pages to be bound by the fastener.

  • Patent number: 4693624
Abstract: A binding mechanism for the binding of perforated papers, has at least two elastically flexible tangs (5,6). These tangs (5,6) are arranged standing upright on the top side of a flat support strip (1). Their ends are releaseably connected with extension pieces (9,10). In order that the tangs (5,6) with their extension pieces (9,10) can be formed into ring arcs whose size is adaptable between a minimum and a maximum, to the bound paper stack height, the support strip (1) made of plastic has passages (7,8) into which the extension pieces (9,10) can be releaseably and lockingly inserted to different depths. The extension pieces (9,10) consist of separate, likewise flexible, rod or tongue like elements which have at least the same or a greater length than the tangs (5,6). The passages may be provided at their insertion-side ends with a detention edge or with a lock tooth, and the extension pieces with a lock tooth system.
