  • Patent number: 8083443
Abstract: A jig for cutting plugs for pocket holes from a workpiece has a base leg, from which transversely extend guide and clamp legs. One or more guide channels extend through the guide leg at an angle to an interior face of the guide leg to guide the sleeve of a rotating cutter bit that has a cutting edge at its end and a removed section forming a cutting blade. A clamp extends from the clamp leg to engage one face of a workpiece whose end is mounted on a raised ledge on the base leg and holds the workpiece opposing face against the guide leg interior surface as the sleeve end cutting edge and blade advances into and cuts entirely through the workpiece to cut the plug. A collar on the cutting bit shaft engages the guide leg to prevent the sleeve end cutting edge from contacting the base leg. The jig also can be used for making pocket holes by using the appropriate drill bit.

  • Patent number: 7980793
Abstract: Methods and systems for concentric clamping for manufacturing assemblies are disclosed. In one embodiment, a drilling assembly includes a spindle assembly configured to perform a drilling operation at a drilling location on a workpiece, and a clamping assembly having an actuator concentrically disposed about the spindle assembly. A nosepiece is coupled to the actuator and is configured to apply a clamping force concentrically about the drilling location on the workpiece. The actuator may include an inner housing having an outwardly extending flange, and an outer housing disposed about the flange of the inner housing. Pressurization of a first chamber moves the inner housing forwardly and applies the clamping force of the nosepiece against the workpiece, and pressurization of a second chamber moves the inner housing aftwardly and retracts the nosepiece away from the workpiece.

Abstract: A non-pneumatic system for use with a workpiece is described. A clamp assembly having a clamp pad is secured to the cabinet. An electrically operated tool is movably secured to the cabinet. The tool has a remote switch which when activated in turn activates the tool. A lever (e.g., a handle) is operatively coupled to the clamp assembly and the tool. When the lever is manually moved, the remote switch is activated and the clamp pad moves towards the work surface. Preferably, the tool also moves towards the work surface opening by manually moving the lever. For example, the tool utilized in this non-pneumatic system may be a drill or saw.

  • Patent number: 7794183
Abstract: A burrless, flexible track drilling system employing a counterweight tool balancing subsystem. The counterweight tool balancing subsystem provides essentially a “weightless” feel to a machining subassembly of the system that carries a drill and an electromagnet. This enables an operator to move the machining subassembly vertically with only a very minimal degree of effort being required. The machining subassembly also includes a plurality of lifting subassemblies that aid the user in lifting and lowering the electromagnet away from and toward a pair of panels on which a drilling operation is being performed. This also significantly reduces operator fatigue and contributes to a highly ergonomic system.
