  • Publication number: 20090041555
Abstract: Race grooves and lobe outer surfaces of a constant-velocity race gear centered on a gear axis are finished by engaging a first groove of the race gear with a rotating groove-machining tool and relatively moving the race gear and rotating groove-machining tool arcuately to finish the first groove while holding the race gear against rotation about its gear axis. Then the first groove of the race gear is disengaged from the rotating groove-machining tool while holding the race gear against rotation about its gear axis. Then the race gear is rotated about its gear axis to align a second groove with the rotating groove-machining tool while engaging a first lobe outer surface with a rotating surface-machining tool to finish same. These steps are repeated in the same order to finish the second groove and a second lobe outer surface and so on until all the grooves and lobe outer surfaces of the race gear are finished.

  • Publication number: 20080152446
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for green machining bevel gears, comprising an CNC machining station for gear cutting a wheel blank (K2). The machining station comprises a tool spindle which is used to receive a gear cutting tool and a work piece spindle which is used to receive the gear blank (K2). Said machining station also relates to a machining station which operates in a vertical manner. Said device also comprises a vertical processing station having a tool holder and a work piece spindle which is used to receive a work piece blank (K1). The machining station mechanically forms a functional unit together with the pre-machining station, wherein the work piece blank (K1) undergoes green machining in the pre-machining station, and is transferred as a gear blank (K2) to the first machining station after the first green machining where it is cut into a gear. Said machining station and the pre-machining station are linked together in terms of data and control.

  • Patent number: 5954568
Abstract: The profiling tool (10) has a segment (12) of a worm thread. Its active zone (13) is coated with grains of hard material (16) and is crowned in cylinder sections coaxial to the tool axis (26). During profiling, the grinding spindle (2) and the tool (10) rotate synchronously. By appropriate correction of the coupling ratio by means of a CNC control when moving the tool (10) in axial direction of the grinding worm (2), the grinding worm flank (1) can be dressed with any desired topology. The method makes it possible to profile topologically modified grinding worms (2) at the grinding worm (2) rotational speed used for grinding, which was previously not possible.

  • Patent number: 5718544
Abstract: A base member such as an elevation pipe of a photographic tripod is severed and rack teeth are formed thereon in a single operation while the base member remains clamped in a V-block. The first rack tooth on each side of the location where the base member is severed includes half of a trough portion between adjacent rack teeth. Additional trough portions forming the remainder of the teeth are formed, either in the same severing and shaping operation, or in a later shaping operation. The formation of the inner half trough portions ensures that, when the two severed ends of the base member are brought together, a smooth transition will exist between the two rack portions. In addition, since the two severed ends always include half troughs immediately adjacent thereto, weaknesses and chipping resulting from the presence of partial rack teeth in these locations is avoided.

Abstract: In order to increase its production rate, a grinding machine has two work tables situated one on each side of a grinding wheel. The tables each have a workpiece holder having a chuck which holds at least a workpiece. In this way the two workpieces can be ground simultaneously by the single grinding wheel. The chucks can be rotated step by step at the same instants as each other so that tooth gaps can be ground simultaneously on the two workpieces. The two tooth gaps, the shape and dimensions of which are dependent upon the profile of the grinding wheel, and which are ground simultaneously will be identical to each other.
