  • Patent number: 11268289
Abstract: A drophead nut for use with formwork building components is disclosed. The disclosed drophead nut maintains standard outward dimensions to allow interoperability with existing systems. The hitting surface of the drophead nut is typically used to align a gap in the nut with a retention pin and thus allow the nut to drop. This in turn allows a mid-plate to fall releasing pressure on a beam (joist and/or main) to allow that beam to be removed. The impact surface of the disclosed drophead nut has been enlarged, reinforced, and possibly repositioned to increase leverage. The resulting drophead nut may allow for reduction in number of impacts on an impact surface to provide alignment of the gap and retention pin, and thus activate compression of the drophead nut.

  • Patent number: 5319691
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for locking the tie rods to block rotation relative to either the upper or lower tie plates utilizing the required fuel bundle channel. A conventional lock nut is provided for threading to the upper threaded end of the tie rods. This lock nut has attached extending wings, these wings when rotated interfering with a placed fuel bundle channel. In installation to the fuel bundle, and assuming that the tie rod has been fully threaded to the lower tie plate, the winged lock nut is rotated overlying the upper tie plate to cause full engagement of the upper tie plate to the tie rods. In such fastening, the winged lock nuts are rotated to an angle that provides no interference with the subsequently placed channel. Thereafter, and when the channel is placed, the channel interference with the rotational path of the wings of the lock nut and thus prevents relative rotation between the tie rod and winged lock nut.

  • Patent number: 4600344
Abstract: A one-piece plastic wing-nut fastener is constructed to push onto a threaded stud and be held in threaded engagement therewith through the use of a pair of opposing arcuate thin wall sections which are formed with internal threads and which flex radially outward whenever the fastener is pushed onto a threaded stud to provide a ratcheting action therebetween. The thin wall sections are supported on a base member by a U-shaped support having a head section and a pair of leg portions. The pair of leg portions are integrally formed with the base portion and extend between the base portion and head portion in a parallel relationship with the thin wall sections. The pair of thin wall sections are integrally formed between the base and the head portion with its axis in alignment with an enlarged aperture in the base portion and an enlarged central opening in the head portion.

  • Patent number: 4482368
Abstract: An improved fastening assembly having application for securing a filter element within an air cleaner and incorporating a novel wing nut construction. As used with an air cleaner, the wing nut is engaged with a large diameter threaded portion of a connecting bolt and acts to secure a filter element within an air cleaner housing, while an outer knob is engaged with a smaller diameter threaded section of the bolt and bears against a cover to secure the cover to a housing. The wing nut is provided with an inner threaded metal section which is molded within an outer plastic wing section. The inner nut portion includes a plastic ring having an inner diameter slightly less than the thread on the nut and serves to seal against the thread on the bolt and prevent leakage of air along the threaded connection, as well as preventing the loosening of the threaded connection due to vibration.

  • Patent number: 4472098
Abstract: Torque limiting clamping means comprises a cylindrical unthreaded screw-thread engaging clamping member of elastomeric material screwed on a rigid screw threaded member at an interference fit. The interference fit, the pitch and dimensions of the screw thread, and the physical characteristics of the elastomeric material are preselected to enable deformation of the elastomeric material resiliently within its elastic limit into the thread groove of the rigid member to accommodate the interference fit and to cause screw induced relative axial movement of the members to a limit of axial travel, whereupon the elastomeric material flows axially across the screw thread to terminate the axial travel and to effect a resilient reaction against the screw thread which results in an axial clamping force and a radial thread-locking force against the thread predetermined by the maximum allowable torque.

  • Patent number: 4433578
Abstract: A wing nut with a threaded axial passage is adapted to engage the threads on the horizontal balancing shaft of a wheel balancer having an abutment thereon. A wheel to be balanced is placed on the shaft and is arranged to be held in tight engagement with the abutment when the wing nut is threaded on the shaft. The surface of the wing nut which forces the wheel against the abutment is recessed with a cylindrical recess. A plastic insert is adapted to be retained within the cylindrical recess and has a central bore which is aligned with the threaded passage in the nut to permit the balancing shaft to pass therethrough. The insert projects axially from the nut body so that the insert, rather than the nut body, will engage the member which is holding the wheel against the abutment.
