Abstract: The present invention relates to a self-punching functional element that is adapted for punching into a workpiece, in particular into a sheet metal part. It comprises a head part forming a flange and having a contact surface for contact with the workpiece; and a punching section that extends away from the head part, in particular from the contact surface, and that is in particular arranged coaxially to a central longitudinal axis of the functional element. The punching section has a peripheral punching edge at its free end for punching through the workpiece and surrounds a cavity in a peripheral direction, said cavity having an opening defined by the punching edge. An inner wall of the punching section facing the cavity has at least one elevated slug securing portion projecting radially inwardly into the cavity, in particular wherein the elevated portion has the form of a rib extending in an axial direction.

Abstract: A high strength bolt fastens a baffle plate and a former plate of a pressurized water nuclear reactor pressure vessel together. The bolt has a head portion and an integral locking member extending from the head portion for engaging one of the structural members to lock the bolt with the structural member. The integral locking member portion has a lower yield stress than the yield stress of the shank. A lower yield stress may be obtained by selective annealing. The locking member is less susceptible to stress corrosion cracking in high temperature, high pressure water of commercial nuclear power reactors.

Abstract: A threaded insert 22 is restrained from rotation by deformation into a recess 28. The recess 28 is only located in line with a directional stress pattern 34 in the receiving member 18 whereby stress concentration is avoided at high stress locations.
Abstract: A fastener especially adapted for securing a liner in a pickup truck cargo box and having a bolster at the upper ends of its walls provided with flanges at its inner edge. The fastener comprises a rotatable bolt having a head at one end and an anchor member at its other end through which the bolt threadedly extends. The anchor member may be rotated with the bolt but is of such length as to engage the lower surface of the bolster after limited rotation, thereby enabling continued rotation of the bolt to cause the liner to be clamped between the bolt head, the bolster flange, and the anchor member. The construction is such that securing of a liner in a cargo box requires no openings to be formed in the walls of the cargo box.
