  • Patent number: 9770849
Abstract: A method of making a sandwich-type, compression-molded, composite component having improved surface appearance is provided. Resin skins and a core of a blank or stack of sandwich materials are heated to a softening temperature of the resin. A compression mold is provided including component-forming, upper and lower dies with opposing molding surfaces cooperating to define a mold cavity. The heated blank or stack is allowed to cool in the mold cavity until inner surfaces of the skins are bonded to top and bottom surfaces of the core to seal core cavities. Air in the sealed cavities urges softened portions of the skins inwardly towards the cavities of the core as the air in the cavities cools. A vacuum is applied at a first outer surface of the blank or stack in the mold cavity sufficient to prevent debossing and improve appearance of the first outer surface.

  • Patent number: 6997691
Abstract: A tablet press machine (1) includes a fixed casing (2) which houses a compression assembly (3) comprising a power-driven rotor (4) that rotates about an axis (5), the rotor including a matrix disc (6) and another two discs (7, 8) on both sides of it, mounting two sets of reciprocating punches (9, 10) opposite and aligned with each other in pairs. The matrix disc (6) has a plurality of through matrixes (11) where the reciprocating punches (9, 10) forming each pair are mounted in such a way as to delimit between them an empty space (12) of variably size designed to contain a dosed quantity of powder to be compressed. Two sets of cams (13, 14) are associated with the compression assembly (3) and, as the rotor (4) rotates, impart on the punches (9, 10) a driving motion which moves them cyclically towards and away from each other in such a way as to compress the powder contained in the matrix (11) in the matrix disc (6).

  • Patent number: 6767500
Abstract: A film is formed by casting a ribbon on a support from a flow cast die while pulling said ribbon toward said support by providing a decompression area. The decompression area is divided into a middle portion, a left portion and a right portion. Degrees of decompression in these three portions satisfy the following formulae: 0<(PC−PL)×100/|PC|<15; 0<(PC−PR)×100/|PC|<15; |PL−PR|×100/|0.5(PL+PR)|<10; wherein PC is a degree of decompression in said middle portion, PL a degree of decompression in said left portion, and PR a degree of decompression in said right portion. The film obtained by the above method is suitable for a polarizing plate protection film, which is used for a liquid crystal display device.

  • Patent number: 6761550
Abstract: A system for processing at least one rope of aerated confectionery foam. The system includes extruding at least one rope of aerated confectionery foam from an extruder. The rope is conveyed from the extruder to a rotary cutter. An anti-sticking agent, such as powdered starch, is applied to the rope as the rope is conveyed from the extruder to the rotary cutter. Finally, the rope is cut into pieces with the rotary cutter. In one preferred embodiment, the rotary cutter is operated to perform at least 5,000 cuts per minute.

Abstract: A three-dimensional printer uses inkjet-type printheads to rapidly prototype, or print, a three-dimensional model. A powder feeder includes a conveyor system and a metering system to deliver powder to a build area in measured quantities. The powder feeder also includes a vacuum system for loading powder into a feed reservoir or chamber. The vacuum system can also be used to cleanup excess powder. Other powder control features include powder gutters and magnetic powder plows. During printing, a cleaning system operates to remove powder from the printheads. In the event of a printhead or jet failure, the failure can be detected and corrective measures taken automatically. After printing, the model can be depowdered and infiltrated in an enclosure.

  • Patent number: 6530766
Abstract: An auxiliary device is disclosed for use with an injection molding apparatus for manufacturing disc-like information carriers. The device includes a holding device for holding an insert plate in a desired position, and a transporter, with at least two heads, for transporting successive insert plates between a plate supply holder and the mold. Each head centers and properly positions each plate within the mold using a tapered centering pin which extends from the head and into the mold wall.

  • Patent number: 6375874
Abstract: A printer forms three-dimensional objects from a powder by selectively applying a binder liquid to incremental layers of the powder. The binder binds layers of the powder into solid two-dimensional cross sections of the desired object provided from memory. The printer can use dithering and halftoning techniques to shade the object and can also print in color. A filtration system removes airborne powder and recirculates the clean air. The printer also includes additional features to manage excess and airborne powder.

  • Patent number: 6250907
Abstract: A method of treating parts (34) in a treatment chamber (33) by hot-isostatic pressing with an inert gas as pressure medium and in the presence of a purifying agent (25a) for the inert gas comprises the steps of reducing the pressure in the treatment chamber (33), increasing the pressure again by introducing the inert gas, increasing the temperature in the treatment chamber (33) by activating heating elements (9a), and, after a certain holding time, reducing the pressure and the temperature again. Especially if the purifying agent (25a) is of the same material as the parts (34) being treated, the purifying effect of the purifying agent becomes insufficient. The effect of the purifying agent (25a) is improved according to the invention by bringing the inert gas, at least when being introduced, to circulate such that it is heated, passes through the purifying agent and is thereafter cooled before contacting the parts. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method.

  • Patent number: 6214282
Abstract: A cross head mounted at an end portion of an extruder for extruding a parison between a pair of elements of a metallic mold and a filling nozzle lifting apparatus having a filling nozzle are provided in parallel, and opening and closing of the metallic mold by a mold clamping apparatus, back and forth movement of the mold clamping apparatus between a parison receiving position and a filling position by a metallic mold feeding apparatus, upward and downward movement of the filling nozzle and back and forth movement of a parison cutter of a parison cutting apparatus are electrically operated. Further, a metallic mold body of the metallic mold is formed from a ventilation material, through which air in the metallic mold is sucked by vacuum to expand the parison. Furthermore, a clean air box is constructed so that it can accommodate the filling nozzle, and clean air is jetted from a jetting hole provided in a lower wall of the clean air box so that a clean air atmosphere may be provided above the metallic mold.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a casting apparatus for formation of a resin-made membrane, which comprises a temperature adjusting unit (a temperature sensor, a heating wire type heater and a temperature controller) whereby an inner wall surface temperature of a suction chamber can be set to a desired temperature. Thus, if a design is made to prevent the temperature of the inner wall surface of the suction chamber from dropping, no contamination of the inner wall of the suction chamber by a volatile matter occurs, so that it is possible to prevent the volatile matter from dropping onto a cooling roll to make a membrane dirty.
