Abstract: A method for making a pastry shell includes the provision of an upward-facing female die, including an open-bottomed baking ring, and a downward-facing male die, and urging the two dies toward each other with a selected volume of dough inserted therebetween such that the male die is inserted concentrically into the female die to form the dough into an unbaked pastry shell conforming substantially to the die space defined between the male and female dies and having a substantially flat, horizontal floor and vertical annular side walls that intersect the floor at substantially a right angle. The baking ring, gasket and unbaked pastry shell define an assembly that is then removed from the forming apparatus, conveyed to a separate oven and baked in the oven such that the baking ring supports the walls of the pastry shell during the conveying and the baking of the shell.

Abstract: To produce a molded part with a through-hole, a rod-shaped blank is pushed through a guide into a cavity and fixed in place. The end region of the blank is compressed and reshaped into a disk. A disk core having the same cross-sectional shape as the blank is ejected out of the disk using a punch and pushed into the guide and moved back together with the unshaped part of the blank. The disk is severed from the disk core and the molded part is removed from the cavity. During the penetration step, the disk present in the cavity is subjected to an axial pressure in the disk core ejection direction and the blank is subjected to an axial counter-force opposite to the disk core ejection direction.

Abstract: To produce a hole in a part (1) made of a thermoplastic composite, the part is locally heated to a plastic forming temperature Tf and the fibres (10) of the composite are progressively moved apart at the same time as the matrix (11) in the plastic state is pushed back radially relative to the axis of the hole, firstly to form a starter hole and then to enlarge the starter hole up to the desired hole dimensions. When the hole has been produced, an operation for sizing the thickness of the part in the hole region is carried out without removal of material because of the excess material pushed back from the hole. A tool having a needle (31), the cross section of which progressively changes between a tapered end (311) suitable for producing the starter hole and a heel (312), is used to produce the hole by the method.

  • Patent number: 7758330
Abstract: For forming a ready-to-bake, endless dough ring, a dough piece is first round kneaded in a round-kneading station and then fermented in a fermenting station. In a pressure station, flattening pressure is exerted on two sides of the dough piece for a flat round piece to produce. After a relaxation interval, an inside hole is punched into the relaxed dough piece in a punching station, with a dough ring being obtained. The individual stations of a corresponding dough treatment system are connected to each other by means of a conveyor. Then secondary fermenting of the shaped dough ring takes place, which is followed by baking of a ring article. The result is an efficient method of forming a ready-to-bake, endless dough ring. Producing the baked ring article can be completely automated.

Abstract: A process of forming a microperforated plastic film includes providing a post tool having multiple posts, bringing plastic into contact with the post tool such that the plastic conforms to the shape of the posts, and solidifying the plastic into a solidified plastic film having a plurality of microperforations in the shape of the posts. Another step in the process is displacing any skins formed over the holes after solidifying the plastic. The process may be used to form a film for sound absorption where the posts are shaped and arranged to provide microperforations that provide a particular sound absorption spectrum. In one embodiment, the microperforations each have a narrowest diameter of 20 mils, a narrowest diameter less than a film thickness, and a widest diameter greater than narrowest diameter. The widest diameter may be about 125% or more of the narrowest diameter in an embodiment.
