  • Patent number: 5916599
Abstract: An apparatus for generating generally uniform compression forces over a film of a relatively low-viscosity liquid by passing the low-viscosity liquid through a porous plate, from an upstream face to a downstream face of the porous plate. The porous plate has a specified porosity and arrangement of the through holes or other pores that results in forming a uniform pressure through and uniform compression forces over a film of the low-viscosity liquid that is at or near the upstream face of the porous plate. The apparatus of this invention results in homogeneous deformation of a material, such as molten polymer, polymer solution, multiphase polymer systems, asphalts or foods.

  • Patent number: 4904171
Abstract: A lubricating device for clay or ceramic extruders in the form of a separable lubricating ring inserted between the exit end of the extruder casing or barrel and the entrance end of the die. The lubricating ring includes an annular outer member having a substantially cylindrical inner wall. A frustoconical liner is affixed to the inner wall in such a manner as to form a reservoir therebetween and deliver a variably controlled supply of lubricant to the clay column at the entrance to the forming die. The frustoconical shape of the liner provides a negative angle of impingement between the clay and the lubricating ring resulting in longer life of the liner and an improved penetration of lubricant into the clay or ceramic material.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a process and apparatus for dotting molding tools with droplets of liquid or suspended lubricant in the production of shaped articles in the pharmaceutical, food, or catalyst fields. Pressurized lubricant solutions or suspensions and pressurized gas are alternately passed through capillaries, in conjunction with alternating single-substance nozzles, in such a way that drops are formed on the nozzle surface, in between the jets of gas, and are then detached from this surface and directed to specific zones of pressing tools. The apparatus comprises fast-acting valves for the brief release of pressurized gases and lubricant liquids or suspensions. The delivery lines of a gas valve and a liquid valve combine upstream of a capillary, and single-substance nozzles are mounted at the end of the capillaries.
