Abstract: A basting cover for maintaining a humid environment for a food product. The basting cover includes a wall, a rigid band, and a flexible handle. The wall extends with a central wall portion and a side wall portion, the central wall portion having an external surface, the side wall portion extending outward from the central wall portion to a free end. Further, the side wall portion extends with thinned portions defined therein to facilitate the side wall portion to be moveable between an expanded use position and a collapsed storage position. The rigid band extends along a central wall periphery. The flexible handle is coupled to the central wall portion such that the flexible handle is disposed in a space between an outer edge of the rigid band and the external surface of the central wall portion.

Abstract: An ovenable tray composite comprises a polymeric based liner and a fiber based component. The polymeric based liner incorporates polyolefin materials for performance in both adhesion (during use) and separation (for disposal) from the fiber based component, as well as high temperature resistant polymers that allow for the entire tray composite to be ovenable. Packages made from the lined trays described herein can be used for packaging food items intended to be heated for cooking or reheating the contents.

Abstract: Systems and methods of a container having a tack welded fin seal. The container may include a film, a tack weld joining a first outer portion of a first edge and a second outer portion of the first edge, and a fin seal joining a first inner portion of the first edge of the film and a second inner portion of a second edge of the film. The container may include a faceplate integrally molded to an outer layer of a first end portion of the film. The faceplate may include substantially the same composition as an outer layer of the first end portion, such that no distinct layers are formed between the faceplate and the film. The tack weld may be formed at a tack welding system, and the fin seal may be formed at a fin sealing system having a mandrel.

Abstract: A beverage press is described which includes a pressure-activated valve in a pressurized brewing chamber. The pressure-activated valve opens when pressure within the chamber rises above a cracking pressure. A filter in the brewing chamber may filter out solids while passing liquids out of the pressure-activated valve. In some embodiments, a high-pressure beverage filter assembly is disclosed which is configured to mate to a beverage press. Also disclosed is an integrated beverage press incorporating a high-pressure beverage filter assembly and features of a beverage press in a single unit.

Abstract: A capsule or container is provided having optimized recycling attributes. The capsule is provided for use in a machine for preparing a consumable product from capsules. The capsule includes a body that defines an interior space with an opening. A cover is disposed over the opening. A filter is disposed in the interior space to define a chamber between the filter and the cover. The body, filter and cover are preferably formed of the same substantially pure polymer material. Ingredients are disposed in the interior space for preparing a desired product. A hinge is provided to tether the cover to the body. The cover is attached with a peelable seal to the body so that cover may be peeled away from the body while remaining tethered at the hinge.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an edible product, which comprises a fibrous plant product and a plant extract applied thereto. Further, the invention relates to a corresponding method for producing said edible product and its use in at least one of food, food supplement, medicinal, cosmetic, well-being, nutraceutical or phytotherapeutical applications. The plants used may be all plants comprising one or more substances of interest for an edible product.

Abstract: A capsule is provided for use in a machine for preparing a consumable product from capsules. The capsule includes a body that defines an interior space with an opening. A cover is disposed over the opening and is adapted to shrink sufficiently when pierced by the injection system to allow pressure to build beneath the cover up to a maximum pressure. A filter is disposed in the interior space to define a steeping chamber between the filter and the cover and is adapted to restrict the flow of fluid sufficiently to cause the steeping chamber to fill with fluid without exceeding the maximum pressure. Ingredients are disposed in the interior space for preparing a desired product.

Abstract: A filter for holding filtration media that may be used, for example, to filter domestic water. In one embodiment, the filter is configured to be used with a reusable cartridge and closure system enabling the use of the filter in water pitchers, including reusable gravity-flow water filters.

Abstract: A method for producing a capsule includes providing a plastic main body having a bottom region, a peripheral side wall, and a peripheral main-body collar adjoining the peripheral side wall, wherein the main body has a substantially rectangular cross-section in the region of the main-body collar; providing a deep-drawn plastic cover for closing the capsule, wherein the cover forms an outward curvature, which adjoins a peripheral cover collar; filling the main body with an extraction material; and placing the cover onto the main body such that the cover collar lies on the main-body collar and fastening the cover collar to the main-body collar via ultrasonic welding. The cover is provided with an energy-director, which focuses the ultrasound energy during the ultrasonic welding, and wherein the cover has at least one groove that extends peripherally on an outer face in the region of the cover collar.

Abstract: A beverage flavoring apparatus comprising of an elongated tubular body, having at least three elongated hollow sections and a container for holding liquid flavor. The top hollow section is for suction and at least one of the hollow sections is adapted to receive liquid flavor and it has a smaller cross sectional area and shorter length which enables the flavoring liquid to be introduced into the beverage stream in minute quantity. The other hollow section is adapted to receive beverage. The container is mounted or loaded on the elongated tubular body so that the section adapted to receive liquid flavor is immersed in the liquid flavor while the other hollow section is dipped in a beverage. As oral suction is being applied, both the liquid flavor and the beverage are drawn up the tubular body and mixes at the hollow suction end before ingestion.

The sidewall includes one or more pre-formed openings or openable portions that form exit paths for a prepared beverage upon the introduction of a liquid to the chamber. The pre-formed openings or openable portions are initially covered or sealed by a cover, and provide existing exit paths for prepared beverage upon removal or opening of the cover. The cover is manually removable by a user, or is openable in response to increased fluid pressure in the chamber. Optionally, a filter element is provided inside the cartridge for retaining a used beverage product inside the cartridge as a prepared beverage exits from the cartridge.

Abstract: A Dual use food container has two sets of holding surfaces, one positions food items such as taco shells for storage and transport and the other set of surfaces position the taco shell in a position for assembly so the cook can add ingredients like meat, cheese and sauce to the shell without it tipping over. The formed surfaces that enable one position exist substantially without interference with the surfaces that enable the alternative position. A thin film can be applied to the top of the container to seal the food within when positioned for storage and transport and can be adopted to fit snugly in a box further protecting the food. Thin formable materials can be used in making the container. Versions of this material can allow food to be safely warmed in an oven within the container. Methods for preparing food within the container are also disclosed.

Flavorings with labels or other placeable indicia are provided so that egg fillings in the eggs in different sections may be flavored and identified by the labels or placeable indicia provided with the flavoring. Eggs with pre-prepared flavorings may be purchased in removably engageable sections separate from the container and later engaged therein.

Abstract: A covered retracted confectionery including a housing with covers hinged adjacent the top for movement between closed and open positions. The lower part of each of the covers being contacted by a part of a shaft moveable in the housing between a retracted position and an extended position with respect to the housing to keep the covers closed against the force of gravity. A confectionery carried adjacent the top of the shaft is enclosed by the covers until they are manually moved to the open position by operation of an actuator slideably mounted on the exterior of the housing against a bias. Upon release of the actuator, the bias will automatically retract the shaft and confectionery as well as close the covers.

The container has a skirt portion that, in use, extends far enough down over a side wall of the chalice that someone drinking from the container does not touch the chalice with his or her lip. A sealed, but easily opened, food packet is attached to the skirt.

Abstract: A perishable food package having a semi-rigid or rigid bottom tray and a flexible top portion is provided for storing a perishable food product therein. The food product can be vacuum sealed within a first layer of film, such as an inner film layer, inside the tray. The vacuum sealed food product can be tightly sealed such that any loose food particles can be restrained from moving around during storage and transportation. The tray can then be sealed at an opening by a second layer of film, such as an outer layer. A space filled with gas is present between the first and second layers of film and can aid in conserving the freshness of the food product and minimizing or preventing damage to the product. Additionally, the package can have support features positioned at an exterior of the package that aid in standing the package in an upright position.

Abstract: A flexible, plastic thin film food package is provided having an elongate opening check valve with an air removal port that allows repeated opening and resealing of the package followed by removal of air and moisture by vacuuming. The top open edge of the food package is bonded to a flexible but rigid frame that fits a lid with the air removal port flat valve. The flat valve is a compressed foam sponge and a thin film housed in a rigid case that is bonded to the lid. Air is removed with a spatula attachment of the vacuum pump that is inserted into the space between the lid and the flat check valve. Once vacuum is induced in the interior of the food package, the film covering the frame is sucked against the lid thereby shutting off influx of air into the package.

Abstract: Food tray assemblies, consumer food products and methods of packaging food products are provided. In one embodiment, a food tray assembly includes a retaining structure, a first tray, and a second tray. The retaining structure has a first engaging region and the first tray is removeably engaged with the retaining structure at the first engaging region. The first tray may be removed from the retaining structure by the application of a force to the first tray in a first direction and may be engaged with the retaining structure by the application of a force to the first tray in a second direction. The second tray may be removeably engaged with the retaining structure or be an integral component with the retaining structure. The retaining structure may further comprise a living hinge that separates the first tray and the second tray.

The lip and protrusions apply friction to a surface of the elongated candy when the elongated candy is inserted therein.

These sheets are sealed together in a selected chamber seal zone to define a watertight chamber portion that is capable of containing the product. A hollow frame circumscribes the chamber portion. The frame supports the chamber portion when the frame is inflated. The need for a rigid tray may be eliminated by the inventive package.
