  • Patent number: 9414677
Abstract: An impact barrier for a storage rack support structure includes an arcuate outer wall having opposed first and second ends, the first and second ends being spaced apart to form a gap therebetween. The impact barrier further includes a first deflection element, a second deflection element, and a third deflection element, wherein the third deflection element is position between the first and second deflection elements. The first deflection element extends from the first end to a first medial position on the outer wall between the first end and the third deflection element, and the second deflection element extends from the second end to a second medial position on the outer wall between the second end and the third deflection element. Upon impact, the first, second and third deflection elements deform to dissipate the energy generated by the impact.

  • Patent number: 9415566
Abstract: A three-dimensional fiber-reinforced composite includes a laminate having fiber bundle layers that are laminated in the laminating direction and include first and second outermost layers, primary and secondary retention yarns, and a binding yarn. The binding yarn includes a fold-back section, primary and secondary traverse yarn sections, a surface yarn section that extends along the surface of the second outermost layer in the direction substantially perpendicular to the secondary retention yarn, and a bifurcated section that is formed on the surface of the second outermost layer and connected to the primary and secondary traverse yarn sections. The bifurcated section is formed by crossing the surface yarn section that extends in opposite directions in the outside in the laminating direction of the secondary retention yarn.

  • Patent number: 9296174
Abstract: Variously configured sub-laminate modules are provided, which comprise at least a first ply and a second ply, the first ply comprising fibers extending in a first orientation, the second ply comprising fibers extending in a second orientation. The second orientation is offset relative to the first orientation, which offset defines an acute angle between the two orientations. The acute angle is less than 90 degrees and in at least one embodiment, the acute angle is approximately 25°. In certain embodiments, the acute angle further defines an unbalanced structure of the sub-laminate module. In certain embodiments, the first and second plies may be further secured relative to one another in a non-crimped configuration. Composite laminated structures formed from various embodiments of the sub-laminate modules are also provided, at least some of which may be homogenized. Various methods of manufacturing the sub-laminate modules and the composite laminated structures are also provided.
