Burner Ignited By Flash Flame Through Conduit Patents (Class 431/191)
  • Patent number: 11655977
Abstract: Various embodiments utilize a novel approach to igniting the natural gas flame that is emitted from the end of the torch. According to one embodiment a rotary diverter within the ignition bell of the GrillGun is used to shunt a portion of the higher velocity gas flow to an area in the bell where the ignition spark is out of the direct burning gas stream. According to another embodiment the ignition bell has a plate that largely covers its open end that reduces the length of the flame that is emitted and focuses it. Still another embodiment has a check valve that operates to stop the flow of gas to the gas conduit when the GrillGun is dropped or tipped over or liquid propane is otherwise presented into the check valve by any other means.

  • Patent number: 4206492
Abstract: An electric gas ignitor is disclosed having a gas igniting fiber comprising a core of conductive refractory material and an outer, high strength, oxidation resistant coating. One aspect of the invention concerns a primary current path defined by at least a portion of the fiber core and comprising a material having a highly uniform resistance per unit length. A substantially uniform temperature distribution is thereby promoted on the fiber surface and the formation of localized "hot spots" is inhibited. The primary current path is preferably an anisotropic material having a preferred crystal orientation which uniformly conducts electricity along the fiber length.A second aspect of the invention is directed to the inclusion of a diffusion-barrier material between the fiber core and the oxidation-resistant coating to prevent diffusion of the core and coating, which changes the fiber operating temperature and decreases its operating life.

  • Patent number: 4097223
Abstract: A combustible fuel gas burner has a primary tube supplying gas and primary air to a main burner, a secondary tube supplying secondary air to the main burner to afford complete combustion, and an exhaust tube through which the products of combustion are exhausted. The exhaust tube also acts as a flash-tube for igniting the main burner. In the absence of combustion, the gas and primary air issuing from the primary tube and the secondary air issuing from the secondary tube combine to form an air-gas mixture in the exhaust tube which is too lean (below the lower limit of flammability) to be ignitable. The supply of secondary air is controlled so as to vary the air-gas ratio in the exhaust tube such that this ratio changes through a spectrum of values between the lower and upper limits of flammability wherein the flame propagation speed of the mixture is substantially greater than the flow velocity thereof.
