  • Patent number: 11498392
Abstract: System, methods, and other embodiments described herein relate to assisting in closing a trunk door of a vehicle by leveraging a Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) system in the vehicle. In one embodiment, a method includes detecting a position of the trunk door, and when the position of the trunk door is an open position, determining whether to activate the HVAC system to reduce air pressure in a trunk of the vehicle, where the trunk and the HVAC system are fluidly connected by an air duct. The method includes, in response to determining to activate the HVAC system to reduce air pressure in the trunk, pumping air out of the trunk through the air duct such that at least some of any increased air pressure caused by a trunk door closure is removed from the trunk. The method includes, when the position of the trunk door has changed from the open position to a closed position, deactivating the HVAC system to stop pumping air out from the trunk.

  • Patent number: 11338229
Abstract: Filtration systems having a normal filtration mode and an enhanced filtration mode are described. In some arrangements, the filtration system is an air filtration system having a primary air filter element, a pre-cleaner, and a pre-cleaner bypass valve. Based on feedback from an intake air quality sensor the bypass valve is either opened or closed to selectively route intake air through the pre-cleaner during sensed dirty air operating conditions (e.g., heavy dust or moisture concentrations). In other arrangements, the filtration system is a liquid filtration system (e.g., a fuel or oil filtration system) that has a main filter and a secondary filter. The filtration system selectively routes the liquid being filtered through the main filter, the secondary filter, or a combination thereof depending on a detected event or sensed characteristic of the liquid.

Abstract: For cooling electric equipment in an electric automotive vehicle, an exhaust duct carrying exhaust air flowing from an electric compartment located behind and/or beneath a seat extends beneath the seat and exhausts into the passenger cabin. The exhaust duct has at least one air induction opening therein downstream from the electric compartment to draw auxiliary cooling air from the passenger cabin into the duct to join with the exhaust air. As exhaust air from the electric compartment passes through the exhaust duct, auxiliary cooling air is drawn into the exhaust duct through the air induction openings and mixes with the warmer air from the compartment to reduce the temperature of the air mixture exiting the exhaust duct. Air mixing features may be located inside the exhaust duct to improve mixing of the air flow from the electric compartment with the auxiliary cooling air.
