  • Patent number: 6419585
Abstract: An interruptible power transmission mechanism couples a drive source to a compressor. The power transmission mechanism has a pulley, which rotates in synchronism with the drive source, and a receiving member, which rotates in synchronism with the compressor. A limit spring couples the pulley and the receiving member such that they rotate together. When the load torque of the compressor exceeds a predetermined value, the diameter of the limit spring is decreased so that the limit spring engages a rib provided on the receiving member. Then, the deformation of the limit spring in the radial direction is locally restricted, causing stress at a specific portion of the limit spring to increase rapidly. As a result, the limit spring is reliably broken at a torque near the desired load torque, thus interrupting power in a desirable manner.

Abstract: A centrifuge rotor locking apparatus includes a C-shaped annular member for a snap-fit engagement about a drive hub. The member comprises first and second contacting segments and a third non-contacting segment. Centrifugation causes the contacting segments to flex outwardly and come into contact with the interior wall of the drive hole of a mounted rotor. The unbalanced mass distribution of the annular member causes the member to tend to slide off the drive hub. This further separates the contacting segments, thus increasing the locking effect of the annular member/drive hub assembly to the rotor as the member is wedged in place between rotor and drive hub.

In the preferred embodiment illustrated the spool has a press fit gear through the medium of which it is driven in either of its opposite directions of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4480736
Abstract: A torsional damper comprises two parts mounted to rotate relative to one another against circumferentially acting elastic means disposed between them. These elastic means include at least one elastically deformable arm fastened at one end to one rotating part so as to rotate therewith. Its other end is unrestricted, and is formed with a shoulder whereby it can engage with a shoulder provided for this purpose on the other rotating part. The or each elastically deformable arm and its support are integral parts of an appropriately shaped flange. An application of the torsional damper is to friction clutches for automotive vehicles, for damping torsional vibration.

  • Patent number: 4359985
Abstract: A governor weight retainer assembly for a fuel pump in which a flexible connection is provided between the governor weight retainer and the hub on which the weight retainer is mounted. The flexible connection is a mechanical construction which has elongated spring elements supported on the hub as chordal elements, and roller elements are mounted on the weight retainer for limited travel in a circle on the chordal elements. The roller and chordal elements thus serve as cushion means between the retainer and hub.

  • Patent number: RE33303
Abstract: The illustrated embodiment which is in the form of a winch (or hoist) comprises a reel including a spool and embodying a portion thereof through which it may be driven for its raising and lowering functions. The reel mounts in bearing relation to a drive shaft between parallel relatively closely spaced side walls of its housing. This embodiment features an overload clutch including a drive plate mounted for rotation with said shaft within said housing. The drive plate nests within a shallow cup-shaped plate firmly and resiliently coupled by springs, parts of which have an interfit relation with portions of the bounding wall. Upon rotation of the shaft the nature and direction thereof is transmitted through the clutch and successive drive transmission elements to the portion of the reel provided for this purpose.
