Saucer Patents (Class 47/71)
  • Patent number: 4083146
Abstract: An improved device for continuously watering plants growing in flower pots or boxes, comprising a body formed by the combination of at least two shells which have a similar geometric configuration and are disposed one within the other and the side walls of which are oppositely inclined with respect to the verical direction in a manner such that they are converging toward each other from the bottom to the top thereof while the top edges of said side walls are interconnected by a generally horizontal top wall. Said shells and said top wall define a hollow space within said body while surfaces of said shells opposite the surfaces defining said hollow space are forming outer and inner walls of said body. The concentrically inner shell is provided with a series of apertures at the bottom free edge thereof.

  • Patent number: 4077159
Abstract: A horticultural container assembly including a container which has an open end pot and a hollow sub-base defined by an annular wall provided by an extension of the annular wall of the pot beyond a separable perforated base of such a pot, the annular wall of the sub-base terminating at a base rim for supporting the pot on a support surface and having integral therewith a cup shaped saucer of a size received fully within the hollow sub-base by the inner peripheral wall. The perforated base, inner peripheral wall and base rim of the pot have means associated therewith for cooperatively providing with the saucer at least one drain-vent passage that is open at one end to the exterior of the sub-base of the container and having its other end in communication with the perforated base and with the interior of the saucer.

  • Patent number: 4062147
Abstract: A horticultural container assembly including a container which has an open end pot and a hollow sub-base defined by an annular wall provided by an extension of the annular wall of the pot beyond the normal perforated base of such a pot, the annular wall of the sub-base terminating at a base rim for supporting the pot on a support surface with an inner peripheral wall thereof extending upward from the base rim to the perforated base and, a cup shaped saucer of a size to be telescopically received fully within the hollow sub-base by the inner peripheral wall. The perforated base, inner peripheral wall and base rim of the pot have means associated therewith for cooperatively providing with the saucer at least one drain-vent passage that is open at one end to the exterior of the sub-base of the container and having its other end in communication with the perforated base and with the interior of the saucer.

  • Patent number: 4059920
Abstract: A hanging flower pot assembly is illustrated wherein a dish is positioned beneath a flower pot in spaced relation thereto so as to receive water which passes through the bottom of the flower pot thus providing drainage for the roots of plants within the flower pot avoiding excessive soaking thereof as may cause rotting. The dish may be positioned in spaced relation beneath the flower pot by providing spaced projections carrying camming means for passing through and engaging a central opening within the bottom of the flower pot, spaced protuberances being provided for maintaining the spacing between the dish and the flower pot.

  • Patent number: 4043077
Abstract: An expandable pot for containing the roots of a plant is designed to expand primarily in response to the growth of the plant's roots. The sides of the pot are folded in an accordian-like manner which flexes outwardly to increase the volume of the pot in response to the growth of the roots therein. As the pot expands outwardly, additional soil is added into the pot in order to maintain the surface of the soil at a desired level. Formed beneath the expandable pot is a drain container and formed along the sides of the pot is a stop member for limiting the expansion of the pot to a predetermined volume.

  • Patent number: 4034508
Abstract: A polymerized soil plug with a growing plant molded therein comprising a body of spongy open-celled hydrophilic polymer, a growing plant having the roots thereof in the body of spongy polymer and having the stalk thereof extending outwardly from one surface, and a quantity of particles of soil mix distributed throughout the body of spongy polymer, a quantity of synthetic organic plastic resin being reacted in situ to form the body spongy open-celled hydrophilic polymer binding the particles of soil mix therein and into a plug and binding the roots in the plug, the soil mix comprising from about 20% to about 80% by dry weight of the soil plug, the roots being distributed substantially uniformly throughout the adjacent portions of the plug and the stalk being intimately surrounded by the plug; the method of making such a soil plug is also disclosed as well as a package for retail sale of the soil plugs with growing plants therein; also disclosed are hangers and a plaque for receiving the soil plugs.

  • Patent number: 4026067
Abstract: A plant turntable having a power supply for the rotation of a potted plant and the like. The turntable includes an imperforate disc supported by a ring-mounted ball bearing assembly for the support of the potted plant which is driven by the shaft of a geared motor mounted directly below in a base. A transverse pin through the drive shaft engages a slot in the turntable axle to provide the driving torque for rotating the turntable. The base forms a motor and battery enclosure. The top of the base includes a ridge adjacent to the periphery of the base beyond the rim of the disc to capture water which may gravitate from a potted plant resting on the disc, and further includes a ridge about the motor shaft to protect the motor from water leakage through the shaft hole. The top further includes a plurality of openings for draining water therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4020592
Abstract: A dish-shaped base is placed under and forms a reservoir for receiving excess liquid from a planter of the type having a centrally located bottom drain. The base includes a centrally disposed socket which projects into the drain to center the planter and base, and a plurality of ribs radiating outwardly from the socket and forming a seat to support the planter in a spaced relation with the bottom wall of the base. In addition to forming a seat for the planter, the ribs simultaneously reinforce the base and buttress the socket. An elongate, rod-like plant support of manually variable length is adapted for insertion vertically through the soil within the planter and into releasable engagement with the socket; the socket restraining the plant support against tilting under the influence of transversely applied pressure, as when a plant or branch is tied thereto.
