  • Publication number: 20120046115
Abstract: A bolt thread damage prevention assembly for minimizing thread damage to produced and packaged bolts includes a bolt production assembly, threaded bolts produced by the bolt production assembly, and a bolt tray for receiving the threaded bolts. A drop pan holds the bolt tray. Oil is positioned in the drop pan and a plurality of air jets create turbulence in the oil in the drop pan. The bolt tray is perforated for permitting the oil to enter the bolt tray in a turbulent state. A distribution conveyor belt is positioned to drop the threaded bolts into the bolt tray while the bolt tray is positioned in the drop pan while the oil is in the turbulent state. A collection pan is provided for collecting threaded bolts from the bolt tray. A bolt tray transport assembly moves the bolt tray from the drop pan to the collection pan.

  • Patent number: 7744475
Abstract: An assembly line for continuously manufacturing fasteners from a rod with a groove for receiving a wire for retaining the fasteners in a strip includes a receiver for receiving the rod. A die press is arranged to receive the rod from the receiver and includes a piercing member for piercing an aperture in each fastener and a cutting member for cutting each fastener from the rod. A tapping member provides ribs to an inner wall of the aperture formed in the fastener by the piercing member. An inspector inspects the internal rib formed into the inner wall of the aperture disposed in the fastener verifying exactness of the aperture and the rib. A wire inserter inserts the wire into the groove forming a strip of connected fasteners. The inserter receives the fasteners sequentially from the inspector after verification of the exactness of the aperture disposed in each fastener.

  • Patent number: 7070509
Abstract: In an integrated cutting and tapping tool, a part in the form of a strip is held on a strip support with a hole facing a tap carried by a tapping tool. The bottom dead center point of the tap is detected by a feeler associated with a multiplier lever pivoting about a transverse shaft and pulling on a transmission cable whose free end is detected by position detection means. In this way the position detection means may be moved out of the tool platen, so that the plunger and the multiplier lever constitute an assembly that is easy to integrate under the tapping area. The machining of defective tappings is detected in this way.

  • Patent number: 6991547
Abstract: A roof bolt comprises a shaft for insertion in a hole drilled in a mine roof and a head whereby the bolt may be rotated, the head being offset with respect to the longitudinal axis of the shaft so that when the bolt is rotated by means of its head the shaft is caused to describe a circle of greater diameter than its own diameter, and where the offset is at least 08 inch and not more than 0.25 inch. Preferably the offset is from 0.10 to 0.16 inch. The invention includes a method for the production of roof bolts which comprise a shaft for insertion in a hole drilled in a mine roof and a head whereby the bolt may be rotated, the method being characterised by being controlled so that at least 90% of the bolts produced have their head central axis offset with respect to the longitudinal axis of the shaft by an amount of at least about 0.08 inch and not more than about 0.25 inch.

  • Patent number: 5201686
Abstract: In production of a lock nut used for fastening in cooperation with a bolt, a tubular material of a polygonal transverse cross section is machined into a crude block integrally made up of an angled main body and a truncated cone having a common, circular cente hole which is then tapped, a series of crude blocks are periodically and intermittently supplied to and registered at a shaping center provided on a holder assembly, each crude block is compressed with a compression mould to deform its tapped hole into a polygonal transverse cross section in the region of its truncated cone, and a lock nut thus produced are delivered out of the shaping center after compression. The process is fully automatized and the deformed transverse cross section of the rapped hole assures halmless, elastic, blanced fastening on a bolt in screw engagement of the lock nut.
