The shape of the protuberances is obtained by machining the cylindrical surface of the roller placed between the tailstocks of the lathe using a hob that has teeth, the profile thereof being complementary to the cross-section of the protuberances. A portion of the hob with the teeth generates the grooves that define the side faces of the protuberances. The grooves between the teeth of the hob have a profile that is curvilinear in a cross-sectional view. With a double pass at two different inclinations of the surface of the roller, the protuberances of FIGS. 5 and 6 are generated.

The channel comprises channel parts, wherein the courses of connected channel parts are at an angle with respect to each other for preventing a linear distribution of the fluids to be received in a course direction of the channel, allowing a meandering distribution of the fluid to be received in the channel. Side walls of the channel are arranged for allowing a meandering flow of the fluid throughout the fluid distribution surface.

A method of transporting cut sheets in a printing system forms a nip between at least one pair of cylinders, each cylinder having an array of contact points, guides a first edge of a cut sheet into the nip, and uses the arrays of contact points to transport the cut sheets through one of either a fusing or drying process.

    Abstract: The invention provides a roll assembly including a pair of cylindrical rolls that are positioned in an opposing cooperating relation for receiving a sheet material therebetween. The projections and corresponding recesses are positioned and arranged on the rolls for contacting and engaging a sheet passing between the pair of rolls. The projections each include an outermost surface portion that is positioned for contacting a discrete portion of the sheet and for entering a corresponding recess on the opposite roll. When rolls rotate about their axes, the projections engage the discrete portion of the sheet material which results in the discrete portion entering the recesses with the projections so as to stretch the sheet in multiple directions.
