  • Patent number: 9314380
Abstract: A continuous web processing device including a folding unit that extends in a conveyance direction. The folding unit has a central guide that comes into contact with the bottom of the crotch part of an absorbent article being processed, a pair of side guides that come into contact with the front waistline portion and the rear waistline portion of the absorbent article, and a superimposing roller that superimposes the front waistline portion and the rear waistline portion one on the other. A spacing between the pair of side guides becomes narrower in the downstream conveyance direction. Ends of the side guides are located further upstream than an end of the central guide. The superimposing roller superimposes the front waistline portion and the rear waistline portion of the absorbent article one on the other downstream from the side guides.

Abstract: A light weight oriented net or netting assembly is provided for oil capture and containment. The netting assembly is made by biaxially stretching or orienting starting materials to form a pattern of oriented strands and integral junctions that, while being light in weight, is also strong enough to be used to capture and remove oil from contaminated water without an outer stabilizing jacket. The assembly is preferably made from oriented polypropylene netting that is folded, gathered, bunched and/or otherwise layered upon itself on the order of 16-64 times and then crimped in one or more locations to secure the netting layers in a bow tie or tubular configuration that forms net cavities and an open cell structure to capture and contain oil that has been dispersed in water. Oil in the netting assembly can then be removed, such as by pressing or other removal process, after which the netting assembly may be reused.

Abstract: An applicator configured to allow a user to apply liquids to hard-to-reach areas of the user's body, such as the back. The applicator includes an elongated rectangular body of flexible material with looped ends made with a full-width of the body. The body is configured to receive and support the liquid as the user applies the liquid to their back. The looped ends are configured to allow the user to easily maneuver the applicator while keeping the body taught during application. The user inserts a finger in an opening through each end and pulls the ends in an opposite direction to span the applicator's full elongated length and width. This allows the applicator to reach remote areas of the body while allowing the user to easily apply even pressure along the full width of the liquid soaked applicator to evenly and accurately apply the liquid to a chosen body location.

Abstract: A zipper tape includes a pair of a male member and a female member including engagement portions and belt-like bases, continued to the engagement portions. The belt-like base includes a seal base defined by widening the belt-like base a larger width from the engagement portions to a crosswise end of the belt-like base than that of the belt-like base. A bond layer and an easy-peel layer are layered on a surface of the seal base in side of the engagement portion and heat-fused to a bag body. The seal base is formed of polypropylene. The bond layer is formed of a mixture of polypropylene and low density polyethylene. The easy-peel layer is formed of a mixture of low density polyethylene and polypropylene. A ratio of polypropylene in the easy-peel layer is smaller than a ratio of polypropylene in the bond layer.

  • Patent number: 7413535
Abstract: The method of forming a tamper-evident plastic bag or similar container includes providing a zipper with interlocking first and second profiles with respective first and second flanges. The second flange is longer than the first flange. A distal portion (with respect to the interlocking elements of the profiles) of the second flange is sealed to the web thereby forming a transport seal to carry the zipper with the web through a form, fill and seal machine. At the form fill and seal machine hard seals are formed between the web and the first flange and a proximal portion of the second flange. The transport seal is a peel seal or alternatively the second flange is formed with a frangible section between the distal and proximal portions and the transport seal is a hard seal. In both cases the second flange provides tamper evidence and/or a hermetic barrier for the completed bag.

  • Patent number: 7404787
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for feeding continuous zipper material with sliders to a thermoforming packaging machine that advances the packaging film N package lengths each advance, where N is a positive integer greater than unity. In the packaging machine, pockets are thermoformed in a central zone of the web, while the zipper material is sealed to the web along a lateral zone that is parallel to the machine direction and does not intersect the pockets. A trailing portion of the zipper material in a zipper processing machine is advanced N times every work cycle, one package length per advance. A slider is inserted during each dwell time between advances of the trailing zipper portion. In the zone between the slider insertion device and the zipper sealing station, the zipper material is accumulated each time the zipper material is advanced without concurrent advancement of the packaging material.
