  • Patent number: 11213446
Abstract: A configuration for moving a bed, in particular a care bed, sick bed, or intensive-care bed, from a horizontal position into an inclined position with respect to the longitudinal sides of the bed. A receiving device for receiving the bed and a stand device for ensuring a stable stand of the configuration are operatively connected via an adjusting mechanism which inclines the receiving device relative to the stand device. The verticalization process is decoupled from the respective existing bed and thus allows a large degree of flexibility for care personnel during a routine therapy session, allowing a safe and comfortable therapy for a patient confined to a bed. The configuration according to the invention is suitable for both a new installation as well as for retrofitting medical and/or care device equipment and advantageously saves on the otherwise necessary expenditures on beds with their own verticalization mechanism.

Abstract: A method for fiducial-less real-time motion tracking of abdominal tumors based on the correlation between the patient's breathing pattern and the diaphragm/lung border during treatment delivery. This invention utilizes an edge detection technique to delineate the diaphragm/lung border on radiographic images in order to calculate or determine tumor locations in the abdomen. The position of the diaphragm/lung border is synchronized with the breathing pattern obtained from continuous optical monitoring of a patient's respiratory cycle. The real-time optical breathing pattern obtained from monitoring is used to determine or calculate the position of the diaphragm/lung border during treatment delivery. The position of the diaphragm/lung border is then used to determine the tumor location in real-time.

Abstract: A modular, multi-articulated patient support system includes independently adjustable columns connected by an adjustable base and supporting a patient support structure. Each column includes rotation, angulation and separation adjustment structure. The patient support may be raised, lowered and rotated about a longitudinal axis in either horizontal or tilted orientation. The patient support includes a body support rotatably coupled with right and left leg supports disengageable at the outboard ends, that can be tilted, rotated and locked in place. An intermediate brace engages the base when the outboard ends of the leg supports are disengaged. The patient support structure may include two pairs of patient supports, each attached at the outboard end of a column and having a free inboard end. A coordinated drive system raises, lowers, tilts and rotates the patient supports, which may be positioned in overlapping relation.

Abstract: An adjustable bed system includes first and second end boards. A first height adjustment mechanism is secured to the first end board via a first mounting member and a second height adjustment mechanism is secured to the second end board via a second mounting member. The second height adjustment mechanism is independent of the first height adjustment mechanism. An external housing member is engagable with one of the first and second mounting members. A transition box is operatively engagable with one of the first and second height adjustment mechanisms. The transition box is positioned within the external housing such that the transition box is substantially inhibited from rotation during height adjustment of the bed system. A drive shaft interconnects the transition box, at a first end thereof, and the other of the first and second height adjustment mechanisms, at a second end thereof.

Abstract: A tilt bed for assisting a patient to a standing position comprises a frame, a tilting mechanism, a mattress support plate, a mattress, and a foot support. The tilting mechanism attaches to the frame. The tilting mechanism is movable between a generally horizontal position, and a generally vertical position. The foot support is fixedly mounted to the tilting mechanism. The main portion of the mattress and the patient thereon moves closer to the foot support during tilting of the bed from the generally horizontal position to the generally vertical position, and the main portion of the mattress and the patient thereon moves distal the foot support during tilting of the bed from the generally vertical position to the generally horizontal position in a low shear manner.

  • Patent number: 8707484
Abstract: A patient support structure includes a pair of independently height-adjustable supports, each connected to a patient support structure. The supports may be independently raised, lowered, rolled or tilted about a longitudinal axis, laterally shifted and angled upwardly or downwardly. Position sensors are provided to sense all of the foregoing movements. The sensors communicate data to a computer for coordinated adjustment and maintenance of the inboard ends of the patient support structures in an approximated position during such movements. Longitudinal translation structure provides for compensation in the length of the structure when the supports are angled upwardly or downwardly. Patient translation structure provides coordinated translational movement of the patient's upper body along the respective patient support in a caudad or cephalad direction as the support structures are angled upwardly or downwardly for maintaining proper spinal biomechanics and avoiding undue spinal traction or compression.
