The metal chelate compound has a polydentate or multidentate chelate ligand, in which at least one of the coordinating atoms is sulfur, coordinated to the coordination site of at least one metal species selected from among zinc, manganese, iron, molybdenum, tin and antimony. When applied onto metal surfaces, the aqueous lubricant forms effective lubricating films on the metal surfaces. The lubricating films contain sulfur as coordinating atoms and therefore, extreme pressure produces sulfur radicals through decomposition by tribo-chemical reactions. The sulfur radicals are highly reactive and react rapidly with the metal surface to produce metal sulfides with a lubricating effect.

Abstract: A composition comprising a hydrocarbon polymer having {overscore (M)}n ranging from 20,000 to about 500,000, when the polymer is not a star polymer, and up to about GPC peak molecular weight of 4,000,000 when the polymer is a star polymer having attached thereto pendant groups Aa and Bb wherein each A is independently a member of the group of formula —Q—Kk wherein each Q is independently an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon group, each K is independently a member selected from the group consisting of amide groups, nitrile groups, ester groups and carboxylic acid groups, and each k is independently a number ranging from 1 to about 3, and when k≧2, groups —K on adjacent carbon atoms, taken together, may constitute a succinimide group, and a is 0 or a number ranging from 1 to about 50; and each B is independently a member of the group of formula: 1

  • Patent number: 5580482
Abstract: The instant invention relates to a lubricant composition stabilized against the deleterious effects of heat and oxygen. The composition comprises a triglyceride oil or an oil which is an ester wherein unsaturation is present in either the alcohol moiety or the acid moiety and an effective stabilizing amount of either an N,N-disubstituted aminomethyl-1,2,4-triazole or an N,N-disubstituted aminomethylbenzotriazole; a higher alkyl substituted amide of dodecylene succinic acid; a phenolic antioxidant; and an aromatic amine antioxidant. Further additives can be added to these lubricant formulations.
