Abstract: A floatable building foundation comprises a steel beam support frame platform with buoyancy provided by underlying pontoons and/or foam billets. Vertical movement of the platform in response to a storm surge is constrained by cuboidal column guides at the four corners. Each of the column guides comprises two tiers of square roller frames, within each of which is an I-beam engaged between the flanges on either side by two rollers supported on horizontal axes. The orientations of the I-beams and rollers alternate orthogonally at each corner of the platform, so that torques generated by uneven buoyancy are suppressed and do not result in jamming of the platform as it rises.

The washers present the capacity to behave as fusible elements which, in the event of a vertical load due to traction greater than a defined value, are deformed and traversed by the closure nut which, once released from the washer, traverses the corresponding hole of the anchor plate, which is of a size greater than that of the closure nut, with the union between the plate and bolt thus becoming decoupled.

Abstract: A perimeter wall support system is disclosed for supporting a perimeter wall section of a manufactured home. The perimeter support system comprises an auxiliary support pier assembly disposed adjacent a perimeter wall having an auxiliary pier support pad with a support pier supported thereon, and at least one elongated strut extending between the auxiliary support pad and the perimeter wall section. At least one anchor coupling affixes a lower end of the strut to the auxiliary support pad. A connector member is carried by an upper end of the strut for securing the strut to the wall section. A longitudinally adjustable mechanism is operable for adjusting the effective length of the strut between the floor structure and the auxiliary support pad in finite increments.

  • Publication number: 20110296770
Abstract: A structural column assembly of the type used for erecting building structures and the like is bedded in a concrete footing formed in situ in an earthen hole. The column assembly includes a post whose bottom end is suspended above a floor of the hole by a stilt. The stilt includes a plurality of legs which extend from the post's bottom end and grip the hole floor through a plurality of cleats. The cleats help stabilize the column assembly during the concrete pour operation so that it does not shift out of position. The stilt legs are provided with a base pad, which is set below the bottom end of the post at a predetermined distance so that the concrete footing can be poured in a single operation immediately after the hole is formed. The stilt can accommodate posts made from wood, pre-cast concrete or any other known construction material. The stilts can be manufactured from formed flat steel or commercially available angle iron and channel stock.

  • Patent number: 8066451
Abstract: The proposed invention is a flood and wind resistant building foundation. The building construction consists of an attached superstructure to a buoyant raft foundation with steel pipe anchor and bent steel plate guide assemblies attached at the foundation corners. The raft foundation is uniformly supported on grade during dry conditions, and on water during flood conditions. The corner anchor/guide assemblies resist wind forces during dry conditions, and provide lateral stability during flood conditions. The raft foundation has plumbing trenches and access space that permit continued use of the building utilities during a flood. This building is made with standard, light weight, low technology construction materials and products with a cost comparable to traditional construction.

  • Publication number: 20110252722
Abstract: An adjustable concrete pier includes a concrete block having a central aperture extending from a top surface of the block to a bottom surface of the block. The pier includes a plate disposed at the top end of the concrete block, the plate having a hole aligned with the central aperture. An internal reinforcement framework is affixed to the plate and embedded within the concrete block. The central aperture receives a threaded rod to which is affixed a nut larger than the central aperture. A suitable support member, e.g. flat plate, U-shaped channel, etc., is disposed at the upper end of the rod. The internal reinforcement makes the pier much stronger as the load bears on the plate and internal reinforcement. Because the threaded rod is not embedded within the concrete, it can be replaced. This novel design also permits greater vertical adjustability.

  • Patent number: 8024905
Abstract: A structural reinforcement system that is implemented during the preparation of the area when pouring a concrete slab such as, but not limited to, commercial and residential floors, patios and driveways. The system includes digging foundation holes that are selectively disposed around the area being poured. The system further includes positioning steel bars above the ground in the lower twenty-five percent (25%), rather than upper fifty percent (50%) as known in the prior art, of the concrete being poured. In this manner, the poured concrete encapsulates the lattice in the lower twenty-five percent (25%) of the concrete when it hardens. As a result, the system improves and often removes the possibility of any cracks in the concrete and eliminates the need for saw joints. In addition, due to the stability created with the addition of strategically placed foundation holes, less concrete is required on the job resulting in a significant cost savings.

The base portion further defines a plurality of anchor-receiving apertures extending therethrough, with each aperture being configured to receive an anchor therein to securely couple the foot to the surface. The side wall defines a fastener-receiving hole extending therethrough, with the hole being configured to selectively receive a fastener therein to securely couple the foot to the post.
