Abstract: The present invention provides a coating composition for producing difficult-to-wet surfaces, comprising
i) at least one finely divided powder whose particles have a hydrophobic surface and a porous structure characterized by a BET surface area (determined in accordance with DIN 66131) of at least 1 m2/g, and
ii) at least one film-forming binder characterized by a surface tension <50 mN/m, the weight ratio of powder to binder being at least 1:4.
It also provides a process for producing difficult-to-wet surfaces, and provides for the use of the coating compositions for producing surfaces having a self-cleaning effect and for reducing the flow resistance for liquids in pipes.

Abstract: The present invention is a composition comprising either: a) a high internal phase ratio emulsion having water as a continuous phase and a thermoplastic hydroxy-functional polyether as a disperse phase; or b) a stable aqueous dispersion of the thermoplastic hydroxy-functional polyether. The composition of the present invention addresses a need in the art by providing a thermoplastic coating that exhibits an excellent barrier to oxygen and carbon dioxide, but which barrier properties are not adversely affected by contact with water. The composition is particularly useful in the paper packaging industry where biodegradability and resistance to spoilage of food is desirable.

Abstract: The invention relates to coating compositions for producing watertight, vapor-permeable and flame-retardant coatings, comprising a vinyl chloride copolymer or vinyl acetate/ethylene dispersion, flameproofing agents, foam stabilizer and optionally crosslinkers. The invention further relates to a process for producing watertight, vapor-permeable and flame-retardant coatings by mechanically foaming the coating composition to produce a stable foam, applying the foam to a woven, knitted or nonwoven support material on one or both of the sides and drying it at a temperature of from 60.degree. to 80.degree. C. and optionally, after drying, compressing the foam layer. The textile support materials coated with the coating composition are suitable for use in building protection and in the geotextile sector.
