Checkreins Patents (Class 54/16)
  • Patent number: 6151872
Abstract: The present invention is an improved horse rein with a main leather rein member and a hook stud assembly. The main leather rein member has a hook stud area located between the bit end and the hand end. The hook stud assembly is a heterogeneous structure with: (i.) the hook stud area of the main rein member being a leather base; (ii.) a hook stud having a stem and a hook stud base, with the hook stud base being located on the leather base; (iii.) a synthetic fabric reinforcement layer atop the base and atop the hook stud base. The synthetic fabric reinforcement layer has an orifice thereon through which the hook stud stem passes. It is preferably formed of nylon; and (iv.) a leather backing atop the synthetic fabric reinforcement layer and having an orifice thereon through which the hook stud stem passes. The assembly is permanently attached to one another, e.g. by stitching. In other embodiments, plural hook studs are used, with and without a synthetic fabric interlayer.

  • Patent number: 6085500
Abstract: An equestrian rider training device incorporated into the reins of a bridle. The training device has an elastic portion in each rein between the bit and the rider's end of the reins. The elastic portion of the device trains the new rider in applying the proper pressure on the reins in order to closely control the mount while not applying excessive pressure which may irritate or injure the mount and make delicate control more difficult. The elastic portion is backed by an inelastic portion which is of greater length than the unextended elastic portion so that if greater pressure is required to control the mount, such as a runaway mount, the rider may apply direct pressure to the bit for emergency control.

  • Patent number: 5519986
Abstract: A gymnastic harnessing and guiding apparatus for a horse comprises at least one stimulation member adapted to be placed at a lower part of the horse's neck, and a recalling member for recalling the stimulation member upwardly and rearwardly. The recalling member further comprises a flexible strap, a headstall comprising first and second head-recalling members, respectively placed on each one of its lateral ends, a breast-recalling member, and first and second shoulder fixing points, respectively configured for placement on each side of the horse between the shoulders and the withers. The stimulation member is designed to exert an annoying stimulation at the lower part of the horse's neck, in a region situated between the third cervical vertebra and the first dorsal vertebra, as soon as the position of the horse's head and neck departs from a target position to beyond a predetermined lower limit.

  • Patent number: 4214420
Abstract: The harness device is used to effect head control of a horse and includes a crown assembly connected to a bit in the horse's mouth via a pair of control lines connectable to a strap that is attached either along the belly or the mane of the horse. The crown assembly is effective to fit over the ears of a horse and includes a poll strap extending across the poll area of the horse's head. The strap is detachably connectable to the cinch of a saddle for extending forward along the horse's belly between the front legs of the horse. The pair of control lines extends from the end of the belly strap to the bit via a movable connection with the crown assembly. This controls the upward movement of the head. A pair of control lines attached to a strap extending along the horse's mane controls the downward movement of the head.
