Patent number: 8721771Abstract: An exhaust gas plume mitigation process and system includes either mixing secondary heat into a moisture rich exhaust gas stream, or diverting a moisture rich exhaust gas stream into a primary exhaust stack having hot exhaust gases flowing therethrough. Moisture rich exhaust gas from a liquid concentrator may be diverted into a high temperature exhaust stack of an engine, a generator, or a flare. The high temperature exhaust gases from the engine, the generator, or the flare raise the temperature of the moisture rich exhaust gas from the concentrator. The high temperature exhaust gases from the engine, the generator, or the flare are also lower in moisture content, so that the moisture rich exhaust gas from the concentrator is diluted by the drier high temperature exhaust gas. As a result, the mixed gas is less likely to develop a moisture plume upon exit to the atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2012Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Heartland Technology Partners LLCInventors: Bernard F. More specifically, a dust sensor is installed in the cooling duct through which cooling air is introduced into the battery for the vehicle and a variable filter is installed in the cooling duct to filter the cooling air and open/close the cooling duct via a driving unit. A control unit configured to control the driving unit according to a signal or sensing value from the dust sensor and a measured temperature of the battery. In particular, when dust is not detected, the cooling duct is fully opened by folding the variable filter. If, however, dust is detected an opening degree of the variable filter is adjusted to close or at least partially close the cooling duct according to the temperature of the battery.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2011Date of Patent: November 19, 2013Assignees: Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Motors CorporationInventor: Hae Kyu Lim

Patent number: 8539755Abstract: Particles smaller than 50 nanometers emitted from an internal combustion engine, and serving as nuclei for forming PM (particulate matter), are removed to decrease the number of PM particles that are emitted to atmosphere. High efficiency filters are provided in passages that feed fluids into the combustion chamber, e.g., intake air, fuel and engine oil, in order to remove particles smaller than 50 nanometers serving as nuclei for forming PM.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2009Date of Patent: September 24, 2013Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kotaro Hayashi, Tetsuya Yamashita

Patent number: 8535401Abstract: The present invention relates to an air cleaner for the removal of pollutants from an air flow by a filter module, the filter module of which includes at least one permeable filter layer for the accumulation of pollutants on the filter layer. According to the invention, a bypass channel will be provided and established such that part of the unfiltered air flow may bypass any filter layer. Surprisingly, such a bypass channel does hardly compromise the cleaning effect of the filter module, at least as long as the filter layer has not yet been clogged with pollutants since in this case the biggest part of the air flow will take the major path through the filter layer due to lack of resistance. Only if the filter layer is clogged and if resistance for the air flow increases, air will obviously flow through the mentioned bypass channel.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2011Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Assignee: Novomatic AGInventor: Heinz Winkler

Publication number: 20130167490Abstract: A filter assembly may include a housing, a filter element, and a layer of air-permeable material. The housing may include an inlet and an outlet. The filter element may be disposed within the housing and may include an upstream face, a downstream face, a first end face facing the inlet and extending between the upstream and downstream faces. The layer of air-permeable material may be attached to the filter element and may cover the upstream face and a portion of the first end face that is exposed to the inlet.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2012Publication date: July 4, 2013Applicant: MANN+HUMMEL GMBHInventors: Joshua J. Patent number: 8454716Abstract: A particle separating structure for use with a turbine engine. The particle separating structure includes a main housing, first swirling structure, and second swirling structure. The first swirling structure is provided for swirling cooling fluid passing through a first cooling fluid flowpath defined in the main housing. The second swirling structure is provided for swirling cooling fluid passing through a second cooling fluid flowpath defined in the main housing. The first swirling structure is positionable in at least two positions, a first position allowing cooling fluid to pass through the first cooling fluid flowpath and a second position allowing cooling fluid to pass through the first and second cooling fluid flowpaths. The swirling of the cooling fluid causes particles in the cooling fluid to pass to a particle discharge zone while the cooling fluid passes out of the main housing through a cooling fluid outlet.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2011Date of Patent: June 4, 2013Assignee: Siemens Energy, Inc.Inventor: Patrick M. Patent number: 8308857Abstract: A filter cassette and a method for allowing a leak to be detected are disclosed, in which the filter cassette comprises a main body defining a first chamber. The main body includes an inlet and an outlet, a filter separating the first chamber into first and second sub-chambers, the inlet being in fluid communication with the first sub-chamber and the second sub-chamber being in fluid communication with the outlet. The main body also includes a second chamber is defined by the main body and the filter, wherein in absence of a leak the second chamber is substantially not in fluid communication with the first chamber. The main body further includes a port in fluid communication with the second chamber, whereby measuring a fluid characteristic in the second chamber by means of the port allows a detection of a leak, i.e. an external leak or a bypass leakage.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2009Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Assignee: SCL Medtech Inc.Inventors: Sylvain Couillard, Simon Caron
