Abstract: A separator (1) for separating contaminants from a fluid stream having entrained particulate contaminants, comprises a cylindrical dividing wall (28) concentrically arranged within an impaction surface (35). The cylindrical dividing wall defines a first chamber (42) into which a fluid stream enters and flows axially through. The dividing wall has apertures (29) through which the fluid stream passes towards the impaction surface. As the fluid impacts the impaction surface, the contaminants are separated from the fluid and flow down to an oil outlet (23). A diaphragm (31) moves along an axis to adjust the open cross-sectional area of the apertures in the dividing wall according to a pressure differential between fluid pressure in the first chamber and a pressure reference by moving along the dividing wall to progressively occlude the apertures. The apertures are spaced so that there is no overlap between them along the actuator axis.

Abstract: A non-fouling, bypass filter is disclosed. The filter is formed of a tapered structure having particulate material filtering properties. The tapered structure has an open base and a closed top, with its exterior surface being exposed to a gas/fluid stream to be filtered. A gas/fluid stream generating device generates a gas/fluid stream that is drawn into the tapered structure's interior and that is filtered due to the particulate material filtering properties of the tapered structure. The external profile of the conically shaped structure is adapted to cause a plurality of gas/fluid streams from the ambient gas/fluid to flow against the exterior surface of the tapered structure to prevent the building up of particulate material on the exterior surface.

Abstract: A gas pressure monitor system for a pneumatically-powered surgical machine includes a first transducer, a second transducer, and a controller. The first transducer is located upstream from a filter and is configured to read a first pressure of a gas before the gas enters the filter. The second transducer is located downstream from the filter and is configured to read a second pressure of a gas after the gas exits the filter. The controller is configured to compute a difference between the first pressure and the second pressure. A state of the filter is determined from the difference between the first pressure and the second pressure.

Abstract: An engine crankcase breather for oil segregation, from blow-by gases, in an engine. The engine crankcase breather includes a housing with an inlet located in a downstream direction of the blow-by gases and an outlet. The breather also includes a baffle within the housing which poses a tortuous path for the blow-by gases, in order to segregate oil particles from the blow-by gases. The baffle includes a hook-shaped portion, in which the oil segregation takes place. The engine crankcase breather further includes a trough extending within the housing. The trough is aligned with the hook-shaped portion of the baffle, to collect the segregated oil from the blow-by gases.

Abstract: An apparatus is configured for filtering a cooling duct of a battery for an electric vehicle. More specifically, a dust sensor is installed in the cooling duct through which cooling air is introduced into the battery for the vehicle and a variable filter is installed in the cooling duct to filter the cooling air and open/close the cooling duct via a driving unit. A control unit configured to control the driving unit according to a signal or sensing value from the dust sensor and a measured temperature of the battery. In particular, when dust is not detected, the cooling duct is fully opened by folding the variable filter. If, however, dust is detected an opening degree of the variable filter is adjusted to close or at least partially close the cooling duct according to the temperature of the battery.

  • Patent number: 8535401
Abstract: The present invention relates to an air cleaner for the removal of pollutants from an air flow by a filter module, the filter module of which includes at least one permeable filter layer for the accumulation of pollutants on the filter layer. According to the invention, a bypass channel will be provided and established such that part of the unfiltered air flow may bypass any filter layer. Surprisingly, such a bypass channel does hardly compromise the cleaning effect of the filter module, at least as long as the filter layer has not yet been clogged with pollutants since in this case the biggest part of the air flow will take the major path through the filter layer due to lack of resistance. Only if the filter layer is clogged and if resistance for the air flow increases, air will obviously flow through the mentioned bypass channel.
