  • Patent number: 11730083
Abstract: A rotary lawn mower has one or more grass cutting blades that are rotatable in opposite directions about a vertical axis or axes. Each blade is double edged having front and rear cutting edges on each end of the blade. Each blade end has a front sloped face inboard of the front cutting edge and a rear sloped face inboard of the rear cutting edge. These faces create air flow within the cutting chamber when cutting grass regardless of the direction of rotation of the blade. The direction of rotation of each blade is reversed to switch between discharge and mulching modes of operation. A flow director has a curved vertical guide wall that guides the grass clippings through a discharge opening in the discharge mode and that guides the flow of grass clippings away from the discharge opening in the mulching mode.

These characteristics enhance security and decrease risk of injury by helping the user to eliminate useless risks and remain on stable ground to mow slopes.

Abstract: A mower has one central and at least one laterally arranged mowing device. The mowing devices each have a mower structure having mowing knives that are drivable in rotation underneath the mower structure about a vertical rotation axis. The ends of the mowing knives describe a circular path, and a guiding element is arranged on at least one laterally arranged mowing device underneath the mower structure, the guiding element at least partially surrounding the circular path and extending downwardly from the mower structure such that cut material cut by a mowing knife is retained or guided away by the guiding element.

Abstract: This mower blade design is intended to cut vegetation (turf, grass or other similar growth) by employing an extreme low or indirect angle of blade attack instead of a direct, head-on, 90 degree impact angle of attack used by most conventionally blades available today. Design is especially effective where the mower is to be operated in sandy or rocky soil. The design increases the life of the blade from one year season to four or five years. Design allows the blade to remain sharp since its cutting edge is out of the direct path of sand, rocks and other debris. Cutting on a low, indirect angle provides shearing or slicing action producing an improved cut similar to that of “reel” mowers. This blade is designed to be used in all conventional rotary mowers.

Abstract: A connection apparatus for connecting a knife to a rotary disc cutterhead comprising a mounting stud having a specifically configured head disposed on the rotating cutterhead and a key hole opening on one end of the knife which permits the knife to moved into engagement with the stud and head when the knife is specifically oriented and then retained in place by the stud and head when the knife is moved into a normal operating position. A hand-operated biasing element prevents inadvertent disengagement of the knife from the stud. The key-hole opening and connection stud may also be configured to limit the angular orientation of the knife which will permit disengagement of the knife from the connection apparatus.
