  • Patent number: 6101800
Abstract: A chopping apparatus for cultivating crop fields that mounts to at least one of the wheels of an agricultural vehicle, tractor or like vehicle comprising a plurality of blades attached to a plurality of spaced arms. The plurality of spaced arms extend outwardly and lock in a fully extended position to consecutively chop foliage and thereafter scoop, plunge and generally penetrate field soil when the agricultural vehicle is in motion and the corresponding wheel is rotating. A second locked arm position accommodates vehicle transportation by retracting the blades inwardly and proximate a center portion of the agricultural vehicle wheel. Each arm is spring biased to facilitate blade impact with a rigid object, such as a rock or the like, by allowing each arm to travel inwardly when a substantial force is imparted on any of the blades.

  • Patent number: 6073431
Abstract: The invention relates to an improvement to the header of an agricultural self-propelled windrower. The invention has a conditioner assembly and mower assembly that can be separated and removed. Hook and pin combination and a conditioner mounting bolt attach the conditioner assembly. A free link and bell crank allow the flotation springs to remain attached with the header is removed. A header top link can be attached to a bracket on either the conditioner or mower assemblies to assist in moving the header. There is a header lift manifold that moves a restricted flow control valve by a switch-actuated solenoid. When the solenoid is activated, the valve moves and forces hydraulic fluid through an orifice. This allows the header limited movement.

  • Patent number: 5791131
Abstract: One or more replaceable cutting blade tips and a central mounting bar comprise a blade assembly. Each of the replaceable cutting blade tips can be selectively attached to the central mounting bar without the use of tools. During typical operation, the replaceable cutting blade tips snugly fit relative to the central mounting bar and little, if any, relative pivoting therebetween is evident. However, some relative pivoting can occur when exceptional loads are encountered by the replaceable cutting blade tips such as when an obstacle such as a rock is encountered. In such an instance, a tearable "zipper" is provided which allows the blade tip to "tear" its way through the zipper while pivoting, thus advantageously providing a means for dissipating energy. Also provided is a "family of bars" concept which reduces inventory, reduces tooling expenses, and facilitates efficient and correspondingly low cost blade tips due to the volumes possible.

A power source is carried within the housing for producing rotary motion and a mechanism is carried within the housing for converting the rotary motion to a reciprocating motion. A shank coupled to the converting mechanism extends downwardly at an angle from a front wall of the housing. A detachable implement is coupled to the shank for performing a garden task on the ground. The power tool is also provision to supply power to alternative connectable auxiliary power implement.

  • Patent number: 5398491
Abstract: A lawn mower having a side discharge chute, has structure for narrowing the passage through the discharge chute, and widening the passage downstream of the narrowed section. A deflector plate is mounted near the intake opening of the discharge chute. The deflector plate extends from the upper portion of the discharge chute downwardly into the path of the mixture of air and grass clippings exiting from the mower housing. The narrowing feature may also be accomplished by an inwardly extending convex portion inside the passage of the chute. This structure causes the mixture of the air and grass clippings to mix more thoroughly, enabling the clippings to exit the discharge chute and to be more evenly distributed when they fall to the ground.

  • Patent number: 5361567
Abstract: A multi-piece tool bar assembly including a main support structure suited for connection to a frame of an agricultural implement and a second support structure selectively attachable in end-to-end abutting relation with the main support structure for extending the effective length of the tool bar assembly. A fastener assembly initially aligns support surfaces on the support structures relative to each other and thereafter maintains such alignment to facilitate movement of one or more row units onto the second support structure. The fastener assembly is arranged wholly within the exterior of the support structures and comprises a guide pin which extends beyond an abutting end of one of the support structures and is accommodated in a close sliding fit relationship within an opening defined at the abutting end of the other support structure. The guide pin and opening are precisely located on the respective support structures to ensure alignment of the support surfaces of the support structures.

Abstract: A mobile mower apparatus comprises a mower boom which is pivotally connected to a mobile vehicle for lateral extension therefrom. A mower frame is suspended from the boom. The mower frame has two frame sections which are connected to each other to allow the frame sections to pivot relative to each other about a generally horizontal pivot axis. A mower blade is mounted on each of the frame sections for relative pivotal motion corresponding to the motion of the frame sections. A hydraulic cylinder is connected to the mower frame to allow a human operator to control the relative angular positions of the first and second frame sections while mowing. The mower blades defining cutting lines which approximately intersect the pivot axis.

  • Patent number: 5243810
Abstract: A header for a combine harvester includes gauge wheels which can be converted from a normal gauge position to a transport position in which the header is wholly supported by the gauge wheels and towed longitudinally of its length. One of the gauge wheels is a single wheel which moves inwardly toward the centre of gravity in the transport position. The other of the wheels is a walking beam system in the working position and forms a transverse axle in the transport position. Each of the gauge wheels is mounted upon a bracket which can pivot about a horizontal axis from a raised spring biased gauge position to a vertically depending position allowing rotation of the wheel about a vertical axis on the bracket. The header therefore can be transported without the necessity for a separate trailer system.
