    Abstract: An electrochemical cell, and an associated process, wherein the cell includes a controlled electrode surface comprising an electrode with a carbonaceous surface, an electrolyte and a reduced additive. The reduced additive is formulated from an additive which is either soluble or insoluble in the solvated electrolyte prior to reduction. The invention further includes a passivating layer at the carbonaceous electrode/electrolyte interface. The passivating layer includes the additive and/or the reduced additive. This passivating layer substantially precludes contact between electrolyte solvent and the carbonaceous surface of the electrode to, in turn, substantially prevent gas formation within the cell, which would otherwise result from decomposition of the solvent upon contact with the carbonaceous surface. Also, the additive and/or the reduced additive will likewise be substantially precluded from generating a gas upon its decomposition.

    Abstract: A yarn being spun in a spinning station of a spinning machine is drawn off with an apparatus which includes a pair of rollers for clamping the spun yarn in a gap between the rollers and transporting the spun yarn. The rollers include a draw-off roller being driven continuously in a draw-off direction at a given circumferential speed and a switchable feed roller for contacting the draw-off roller and for being driven through friction by the draw-off roller when contacting the draw-off roller. A method for drawing off the spun yarn includes positioning the yarn to be drawn off between the rollers while the feed roller is not contacting the draw-off roller. The feed roller is driven with a fluid in a circumferential direction and accelerated to a circumferential speed being at most the given circumferential speed. The feed roller is then placed in contact with the draw-off roller.

    Abstract: A spinning ring member supported on an air bearing between the ring member and a ring holder, the air bearing being formed by an axial passageway between the ring holder and the ring member and upper and lower radial passageways. The upper radial passageway is open and unencumbered, and a barrier element is disposed directly in the path of the air flow through the lower radial passageway to interfere with and partially block such air flow, whereby pressurized air within the axial passageway will flow primarily through the upper radial passageway to impose a lifting force on the ring member. The upper and lower radial passageways are provided by upper and lower facing radial walls on the ring member and the ring holder, respectively, that have an equal axial spacing therebetween to provide simultaneous seating of the ring member at both radial walls when the ring member is at its inoperative or at rest position.

There is a limit to the number of conductors a core can have for effective filling. In the present invention the cable core is opened up into a number of core units by passing through an opening member. The opening member is freely ridable on the cable core and has a hole for each unit. The opener is held against a support member and an air bearing formed between the two members. Air is also usually fed to the holes in the opener member through which the core units pass to prevent flow of powder out from the bed. The opening member can be positioned in the fluidized bed or outside immediately prior to passage of the cable core through the bed. The units are each in a substantially closed condition in the bed and the units close to a single core also in the bed.

The fibers are thereafter drawn out of the spinning chamber as twisted fibers formed into a thread. The air which flows into the interior of the rotor is evacuated from the spinning chamber by suction.The apparatus of the invention is arranged so that the spinning chamber has at least one air outlet opening through which air flowing into the interior of the rotor leaves the spinning chamber. The outlet is located in the cover portion of a housing and is connected to an air suction device by at least one air channel.
