In this case, the roller is driven substantially at the peripheral speed of the spool roller before being placed on the spool. In order to perform the method, the braking roller has associated with it a braking device which is connected for control purposes to a spool-changing device. The braking device is constructed as a direct-current machine with a resetter.

The apparatus also includes a control device for controlling the suction applying device to initially apply suction to the tube for predetermined length of time to thereby draw in a trailing end of wound yarn and, if a trailing end of wound yarn is not drawn in, to control the auxiliary yarn length delivery device to deliver a length of auxiliary yarn onto the tube.

    Abstract: Fiber optic filaments or ribbons are deflected by a system of sheaves to converge at final filament deflection sheaves which direct the filaments along the longitudinal direction of an assembly table. Successive sets of filament deflection sheaves stack the filaments into bundles which are separated by spacer elements which are likewise guided to the assembly table. Sensors at the final sheaves monitor the tensions in both the filaments and separators and a controller is used to adjust the tensions to compensate for frictional variations upstream of the final sheaves. The table is positioned at an angle to the machine axis so that the stacked filament bundles and separators can be wound about a rotating core by being drawn along the table by the rotating core for staggered and tangential application of the filaments about the core at the downstream end of the table.

    Abstract: A process for the piecing of a yarn end on a open-end spinning machine. The yarn is backfed a first time from a cross-wound package, the backfeeding is interrupted and the yarn is clamped at a predetermined distance from the package and the free end is cut. The backfeeding is then resumed for a predetermined period of time and the yarn is temporarily stored between the clamping point and the package. The stored yarn is then wound onto the package in a plurality of parallel windings upon a predetermined generating line. The yarn clamp is released to backfeed the yarn remaining in the temporary storage device and to stretch or tension the yarn between the package and the backfeeding means. The yarn is reclamped and the excess yarn is cut to a predetermined length. The yarn is backfed to the spinning rotor of the open-end spinning machine to combine with fibers in the rotor to piece up the yarn, which is then drawn off the rotor and wound onto the package.

The tranfer motion of the yarn transfer device and the transverse motion of the yarn guide are adapted to one another as a function of the chronological course for causing the yarn and the yarn guide to substantially simultaneously arriving at the transfer point. An apparatus for performing the method includes a first device for monitoring reciprocation of the yarn guide to a yarn tranfer point.

Consequently, the method of functioning of the system, which can be employed in particular in winding rooms for monitoring automatic spoolers, is automatic and objective, and the evaluation of the measurement results becomes independent of the interpretation of the operating personnel.

    Abstract: A spinning apparatus winds a strand onto a yarn package by relatively rotating a flyer and the yarn package about an upright axis so as to wind the strand in a succession of turns around the package by a flyer finger movable axially relative to the package. Each successive layer of turns is shorter than the preceding one so that the finished package has an axially upwardly tapered upper end. After substantially completely forming the package the rotation is generally stopped to leave the flyer in a position with the finger below the upper end of the last layer of turns formed on the package. Then the package and finger are relatively axially moved until the finger is generally at the upper end of the first layer of turns formed on the package. The flyer and package are then relatively rotated forward, that is in the same direction as when the package was being formed, through at least one half revolution about the axis so as to form a loop of the strand around the upper package end.
