    Abstract: A syringe apparatus is disclosed for delivering a light-cured tooth composite material of a type that is essentially solid, yet pliable. The syringe apparatus comprises a barrel and a plunger which is used to push the composite material through the barrel. The barrel has an outlet end with a divider formed as an integral part thereof. The divider cuts, sectionalizes, and individually compartmentalizes the material as it is pushed to the outlet of the barrel. Thus, the material is extruded into a plurality of individualized sections. Each individualized section of material is contained in a separate compartment having a support surface that optionally extends beyond the outlet end of the barrel. The support surface serves as a cutting plate against which a dental tool can pinch off a discreet portion of the material.

A laser source is operatively connected to the fiber optic guide at the proximal end of the shaft for generating a laser beam for transmission through the guide upon application of the biologically active composition to the tissue surface during the laparoscopic procedure. The applicator component includes, at the distal end of the shaft, a roller or a flexible cup-shaped receptacle which stores a predetermined amount of the biologically active composition and which deforms in response to a pressing of the shaft, to deposit the biologically active composition onto the tissue surface.

    Abstract: A method of preparing a hydrophilic plastic cartridge by centrifugally cang polymerizable hydrophilic material in a rotating polymerization tube whose longitudinal axis is maintained parallel to the ground. The speed of rotation causes radial outward displacement of the polymerizable material which upon assuming a predetermined shape within the rotating tube is then polymerized to the predetermined solid configuration. The resulting plastic cartridge is characterized by smooth, unscored internal and external cylindrical surfaces. The cartridges are used as a rate-limiting membrane in drug delivery devices. Sterilized kits containing a disposable needle/syringe or trocar-like instrument and the drug delivery device are used for subcutaneous implantation of the device in an animal body.

The packet is positioned in the bore adjacent the head end by a annular support member having a central opening in registry with the bore. A plunger is mounted in the bore and has a head adapted to slide in the bore and a tail projecting out of the tail end of the tubular injector, and the tail end of the plunger is used to displace the head of the plunger through the packet, through the opening in the annular support, and beyond the head end of the tubular injector. The head of the plunger is provided with a beveled surface along one side.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for simultaneously injecting medication or vaccination fluid into animal tissue and permanently placing an electronic transponder therein. An ejector is formed by a hub, which is adapted to be secured to the syringe, and from which a sharpened, hollow needle projects. Inside the needle is an elongated rod which extends into the syringe so that actuation of the syringe plunger to flow liquid through the needle forces the rod towards the sharp end of the needle. The transponder is disposed proximate the sharp end of the needle so that the rod mechanically forces the transponder with the liquid into the tissue. A sleeve which engages the rod is disposed inside an enlarged chamber defined by the hub and can move a limited extent only over the length of the rod so that the transponder can be forced into the tissue while the rod is prevented from falling out of the needle in either direction.

A plunger is slidably disposed in the tubular body for reciprocal movement between a withdrawn position and an extended position and a combined spring is situated between the plunger and the closed end of the applicator to urge the plunger toward its extended position. The tubular body is formed with a longitudinal slot along its side which has a notch that extends from the slot to engage a latch on the plunger and hold the plunger in its withdrawn position. The open end of the tubular body is shaped to stationarily hold a suppository against the withdrawn plunger until the suppository is to be inserted into the body cavity. When the latch is released, the spring pushes the plunger against the suppository to insert the suppository into its desired placement in the body cavity.

The plunger is slidable in the bore in response to movement of the forward section with respect to the rearward section. The substance, having been inserted into the bore, is then expelled from the application orifice in a precise and easily maneuverable manner. The dispensing means can be used with substances which are pre-packaged in capillary-type containers. The plunger can have different diametered sections which allow expulsion of the substance and then allow expulsion of the capillary-type container.

    Abstract: A method and instrument for placing an implant in the teat duct and udder of an animal, as a milk cow. The instrument has an elongated tubular member having a passage accommodating the implant. The tubular member is adapted to be inserted into the milk duct through the discharge end thereof. A head having finger gripping ears is attached to the tubular member. The implant is moved from the passage with a piston connected to a rod extended through the head. A hand engaging member secured to the rod is used in cooperation with the ears to apply force to the rod to move the piston in the passage to move the implant into the teat duct and udder. The implant has a core of an elongated flexible plastic string. A plurality of bands are clamped about the core. Alternate bands are coated with a first metal, as silver. The remaining bands are coated with a second metal, as gold. All of the bands may be coated with the same metal, such as silver.
