Patent number: 8185839Abstract: User interfaces for browsing and/or searching are described. In one embodiment, a method includes displaying a first display area for display representations of documents matching a search query, the first display area configured to display content of the documents which can have a plurality of different types of content including at least one of text-based content and a folder, and displaying a second display area for selecting a selected document to be displayed in the first display area. Other embodiments are also described, and computer readable media and apparatuses are also described.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2007Date of Patent: May 22, 2012Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Julien Jalon, Julien Robert, Toby Paterson

Patent number: 7685534Abstract: A three-dimensional browser wherein in an exemplary embodiment, information from a uniform resource locator is converted into at least one texture. The texture is mapped onto a surface of a three-dimensional object located in a virtual three-dimensional space in order to provide a three-dimensional navigation mechanism. In an alternate arrangement an event associated with an image is intercepted and the location of the event in the corresponding geometric surface of the virtual three-dimensional space is computed. This location is converted to a two-dimensional coordinate and thereafter information pertaining to the event is placed on the surface on the three-dimensional object in the virtual three-dimensional space.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2001Date of Patent: March 23, 2010Assignee: JLB Ventures LLCInventors: Yakov Kamen, Leon Shirman

Patent number: 7577913Abstract: Using a fovea type pointer in a video conferencing system including 2-dimensional display screen forming a virtual surface between participants interacting with the display screens. The virtual surface is utilized as a 3-dimensional rocker for pivoting an image displayed thereon in a 3-dimensional manner. The display screens (i.e., the virtual surface) may include a plurality of predefined/adjustable edge portions, such that each edge portion is designated as a rocker edge portion. Further, each rocker edge portion can be designated as at least one of a pivot portion and a panel portion. If a rocker edge portion that is a panel portion is utilized, then hidden information/options will appear. In addition, if a rocker edge portion that is a pivot portion is utilized, then the image displayed on the virtual surface will be pivoted around an invisible axis causing a portion of the image (which was once not visible) to appear.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2008Date of Patent: August 18, 2009Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Andrew Ward Donoho

Patent number: 7546532Abstract: A respective user modifies (e.g., selects, drags, and drops) either one or both of a first visual representation of a first video clip segment and second visual representation of a second video clip segment to overlap with each other in order to create a so-called transition region while in an editing phase. In response to creating the overlap, a respective video editor application herein splices respective ends of the first visual representation and the second visual representation to indicate where respective first and second content overlap with each other. For example, to more clearly depict the spliced ends of content on a respective display screen, the video editor application initiates display of an overlapping content region to include a first region in which the first content appears to be overlaid on the second content and a second region in which the second content appears to be overlaid on the first content.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2006Date of Patent: June 9, 2009Assignee: Adobe Systems IncorporatedInventors: Jonathan L. Patent number: 7216305Abstract: A method for storing, displaying, and retrieving user-selected portions of software application data, display, and functional operations includes one or more 3-D objects portrayed on a computer display. The 3-D object has various onscreen data, 3-D object, text portion, switch, video/audio clip, or the like assigned to and displayed on facets of the 3-D object. The 3-D object is rotatable about at least one axes, so that each one of the six surfaces of the 3-D object may be brought into full visualization, while two other surfaces are partially visible. A plurality of 3-D objects may be combined for functional operations among corresponding files stored on the 3-D objects.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2002Date of Patent: May 8, 2007Inventor: Denny Jaeger

Patent number: 6907573Abstract: One or more embodiments of the invention provide a method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for defining mating properties of a graphical component in a computer-implemented drawing program. An option to create a first constraint interface for a first geometric characteristic of a first component is initiated. In response to the initiation, a dialog window for specifying settings for the first constraint interface regardless of whether a second constraint interface is currently displayed is displayed. The settings define mating properties for how the first geometric characteristic of the first component mates with the second constraint interface. Once specified, the first constraint interface of the first geometric characteristic is persisted with the first component.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2001Date of Patent: June 14, 2005Assignee: Autodesk, Inc.Inventors: Scott T. Publication number: 20040268268Abstract: A method, apparatus and system for accessing data objects from a storage medium includes rendering a combination of graphical structures. Each graphical structure depicts a storage hierarchy or logic, and can include a link or reference to stored data objects. The combination of graphical structures defines a number of graphical objects. Each graphical object is associated with a coordinate display and linking mechanism to access one or more data objects represented by the graphical object. Thus, a number of collections of data objects is represented graphically for quick access.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2003Publication date: December 30, 2004Inventors: Sylvia Scheu, Uwe Riss, Anja Modler-Spreitzer

Patent number: RE42414Abstract: A drawing management device for managing the drawing of an entire facility, such as a water supply facility, as digital information. This device includes a unit for storing drawings with priorities obtained by separating the entire facility drawing into sub-facility drawings located at plural levels, a selective display designating unit for displaying a desired sub-facility drawing obtained by selecting the number of levels considering the priority from the storing unit, and a display unit for displaying the desired sub-facility drawing in response to the signal from the selective display designating unit. By suitably selecting a desired level considering the priority, only a necessary and sufficient facility drawing can be displayed swiftly.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1997Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Manabu Fukushima, Mikio Yoda, Kazuo Tsutsui
