  • Patent number: 11931784
Abstract: A rolling mill for solid elongated products, defining a rolling axis, including first and second rolling stations. Each station includes a load-bearing structure, a removable roll-holder cartridge with three rolling rolls movable radially and rotating around spaced rotational axes, and a roll having a vertical rotational axis. A system synchronizes mechanical adjustment of the rolls. Three actuators mount on the load-bearing structure; three gear motor groups connect to the rolls by single extensions. The second station rolls are rotated 60° from the first stations. The rolls with a vertical axis of the first and second stations are arranged on opposite sides of the rolling axis. All rolling stations allow lateral extraction of roll-holder cartridges from the same side of the rolling mill. The stations on the extraction side have actuators movable relative to the load-bearing structure. The stations with vertical rolls arranged on the opposite side have fixed actuators.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for refurbishing used metal banding of the type used to strap together bundles of items such as lumber. The method includes passing the used metal banding through a roller mill designed to guide and straighten the banding and to remove kinks formed where the banding previously was wrapped around corners or other protrusions of the bundle, recovering the straightened banding, and reusing the banding to strap other bundles of items. The apparatus includes a base containing an electric motor and a housing that encloses at least three rollers of the roller mill and special components that direct the banding in and out of the roller mill and expel it to be collected for reuse. The broad concept of the invention is the recovery, refurbishing, and reuse of used metal banding to band bundles of items for shipping.

Abstract: A rolling mill stand and related rolling mill for rolling rod-shaped bodies, even large in size, which meets the requirement of stiffness uniformity of the rolling mill stands in the transversal direction, all the hydraulic capsules being firmly fixed to the external structure of the rolling mill and providing for the side change of the rolls of each stand. The arrangement of rolling rolls and related extensions of each rolling mill stand is such to avoid problems of corrosion and damaging to the extensions themselves and to the reducers due to the drainage of the cooling waters.

Abstract: A contoured roller set and associated systems and methods are disclosed herein. A male roller having a convex surface and a pair of female rollers each having a concave surface can receive a generally thin sheet of material and impart a doubly-curved shape to the sheet. The convex and concave surfaces of the male and female rollers can have a radius of curvature chosen to match a radius of curvature of the sheet of material. The rollers are positioned and shaped to urge the sheet between the female rollers to cause the sheet to curve toward the male roller.

Abstract: An apparatus and corresponding manufacturing method for configuring a surgical needle such that the surgical needle has a barrel having a substantially elongate configuration and a point having a substantially curvilinear configuration are disclosed. First and second curving members having an axis of rotation are disposed adjacent and separated by a gap. Third and fourth curving members are slidably disposed in a path traversing the first and second curving members. When a surgical needle is inserted into the gap, the third and fourth curving members can be slid in the path to impose a holding force on the barrel of the needle and can be further slid in the path to cause curvature of the point of the needle by one of the first and second curving members. A corresponding method of manufacturing the needle having a curved point substantially without causing curvature of the barrel is also disclosed.
