  • Patent number: 11701703
Abstract: A method is provided for determining the shape of a surgical linking device that is to be attached to a bony body structure such as the spinal column based on digitized locations of a plurality of attachment elements engaged to the bony structure. The method is implemented by a computer system through a GUI to generate an initial bend curve to mate with the plurality of attachment elements. The initial bend curve may be simplified based on user input to the GUI to reduce the number of bends necessary to produce a well-fitting linking device and may be altered to help obtain the goals of surgery.

  • Patent number: 11696788
Abstract: A system for rod bending for use in robotic spinal surgery, enabling the correct bending of a fusion rod to match the shape required to accurately pass through the heads of the pedicle screws. The system uses data generated by information provided to the robot by the surgeon's preoperative plan, optionally augmented by feedback from the robot control system of deviations encountered intraoperatively. Such deviations could occur, for example, when the surgeon decides intraoperatively on a different trajectory or even to skip screws on one vertebra, in which case, the robot will be commanded to perform the alternative procedure, with commensurate instructions relayed to the control system of the rod-bending machine. The system is also able to thin down the rod at predetermined locations along its length, adapted to be at selected intervertebral locations, for maintaining limited flexibility between vertebrae, instead of fixating them.

Also, a unique automatic or manual reversing mechanism is disclosed which allows the handle to be used in only one direction for straightening rebar as well as bending it.

Abstract: A transport mechanism (28) is disclosed for use in a pipe bender (10) for bending pipe sections (12), particularly pipe sections having a diameter greater than one foot. First and second powered rollers (30, 32) are mounted within the pipe bender and driven by hydraulic motors to move the pipe section in a controlled manner through the pipe bender. A hold down roller (34) is pivoted against the pipe section to force the pipe section into engagement with the powered rollers to insure an adequately frictional engagement between the rollers and the pipe section to move the pipe section through the pipe bender.

Abstract: A lower die assembly used in a bending machine to form pre-punched three-dimensional structures has a plurality of plungers located within the V-shaped bending slot of the lower die. As the upper die presses against the pre-punched sheet, the sheet is pinched between an upper end surface of the plungers and the rounded end of the upper die so as to maintain the prescribed position of the sheet during bending. The lower die may include a pin stop which cooperates with positioning holes pre-punched in the sheet in order to establish the desired position of the sheet prior to bending.

Abstract: The present invention briefly relates to a tool for the synchronous operation of fastening a seal ring to a connector pipe, crimping of the flange-like portion resulting from the clamping, and forming of the end portion of the connector pipe. The tool comprises a calibration ring (11) into which the pipe end portion is inserted for calibration, a pull rod (1) extending centrally through the calibration ring (11) and a set of form chucks (5) around the pull rod (1). The form chucks (5) are prestressed against and in cooperation with a cone (2) provided at the pull rod end, so that when the pull rod (1) is displaced in such a way that the cone (2) moves toward the calibration ring (11), the form chucks (5) at first are being pressed radially outward by the cone (2) to engage the inner side of the connector pipe and then are pulling the connector pipe by means of the pull rod (1).

Abstract: A hand operated rebar bender and bent rebar straightener which includes a base, a pair of spaced apart bending posts and a linearly reciprocal slide disposed between the posts and movable reciprocally in directions perpendicular to a line interconnecting the posts. The slide defines a first and a second groove, both adapted to receive rebar, which move with the slide. The first groove is positioned so that straight bar to be bent is originally tangent to the peripheries of the posts. The slide is movable over a distance sufficient to move the first groove past the line interconnecting the posts so that the appropriate bend is formed in the rebar. The second groove is positioned so that in one of the limiting positions of the slide travel it is relatively further removed in the direction of slide travel from the bending posts than the first groove to permit the insertion of bent rebar therein.

  • Patent number: 4446713
Abstract: A pipe bending machine (10) is described which incorporates a bending die (14) which supports coated pipe during bending without damaging the coating. In one embodiment, the bending die (14) employs a conventional die (30) with a plurality of longitudinal rods (40, 42, 44) spaced from the inner surface of the die (30) and in pipe confronting relation. When the pipe is urged against the bending die in the machine, the rods precompress the material thereunder for transmitting the bending forces. The rods (40, 42, 44) are spaced a sufficient distance from each other in the transverse direction about the inner surface of the die to permit the material to flow outward therebetween to reduce the stresses in the coating. In a second embodiment, a plurality of transversely extending rings (62, 64 66) are positioned on the inner surface of a conventional die (30) which further act to support bending forces without damage to the coating.
