  • Publication number: 20150122019
Abstract: A storage and measurement container for retaining a quantity of particulate material and dispensing a measured serving thereof. The container comprises an interior volume that is dividable into an upper volume and a lower volume via a slide, a sliding member that selectively occupies the lower volume, and a bottom lid for dispensing the contents of the lower volume. Pulling the slide and the sliding member out from the container causes granular material, such as flour or spices, to fall from the upper volume to the lower volume that is vacated by the sliding member. Measurement indicia on the slide corresponds to the amount of volume vacated by the sliding member. Once the desired amount of material has been deposited into the lower volume, the slide can be closed to seal the upper volume from the lower volume, and the contents of the lower volume can then be dispensed therefrom.

  • Patent number: 8850882
Abstract: The present invention is a non-intrusive method to determine the fluid level in a vessel. In a preferred embodiment, the vessel is a delayed coker drum in a refinery. Waves are generated in the vessel from an outside source. For wall vibration generated in the frequency range of 1-20,000 Hz, accelerometers on the exterior wall of the vessel measures the attenuation of the vibration modes of the vessel. The fluid level can related to the attenuation of the vibration mode. For wall vibration generated in the ultrasonic range, the wave traveling in the vessel wall are guided waves. The guided wave will leak energy into the fluid inside the vessel and will attenuate depending on the fluid level. Ultrasonic receivers on the outside of the vessel measure the attenuation. The fluid level can be related attenuation of the ultrasonic waves.

  • Publication number: 20140216154
Abstract: The disclosure provides a volumetric measurement device that includes of a vessel into which contents to be measured are placed. The device has a target operational range of measurement volumes. The shape of the vessel has the property that the ratio of the surface area of contents in the vessel to the volume of those contents is constant across the operational range. For any source of error in the estimation of vertical height of contents, the constant ratio of surface area to volume prevents the error from having a larger negative impact on overall measurement error as the volume being measured decreases. In other words, the vessel is just at good at measuring small volumes of contents as large volumes of contents.

  • Patent number: 7416706
Abstract: A level sensor apparatus is disclosed for detecting contact of a pipetting needle with a liquid contained in a vessel. The apparatus includes a sensor head made up of a pipetting needle, a needle holder, and an electromechanical transducer. The sensor head also has an associated mechanical resonance frequency. An electrical signal generator is used to generate a driving signal which when applied to the electromechanical transducer causes vibration of the pipetting needle at the resonance frequency. A measurement device is used to measure a parameter of a vibration signal indicative of the mechanical vibration of the pipetting needle when it is driven by the driving signal. An electronic circuit and associated computer software is provided to evaluate variation of the vibration signal with time and thus detect contact of the pipetting needle with a liquid contained in the vessel.

  • Patent number: 7290446
Abstract: A device and method for determining Brix ratios of fountain-dispensed beverages that have different Brix ratios. The device includes a primary cup and a set of secondary cups that have different cross sectional areas. When determining a beverage Brix ratio, a select secondary cup is attached to the primary cup based on the ratio of the cross sectional areas of the primary cup and selected secondary cup. This ratio is based on the Brix ratio of the beverage. The determination is performed by flowing the water from the dispensing head forming the beverage into the primary cup and the syrup forming the beverage into the select secondary cup. A slider attached to one of the cups is moved to a select position based on the liquid level in the cup. The liquid level on the other cup is compared against the level defined by an indicia on the slider.
