Abstract: A transmission is disclosed for a wheeled vehicle. The transmission has a rotary input (14) to be driven by a rotary power source, e.g. an internal combustion engine. It has a rotary output (16) for driving a vehicle wheel. A transmission unit is coupled between the rotary input and the rotary output to transfer drive between them at a speed ratio which is continuously variable through a range which includes both negative ratios (providing a reversal of rotational direction between the rotary input and the rotary output), positive ratios (in which the rotary input and the rotary output rotate in the same direction), and a geared neutral ratio, in which the rotary output is stationary. In accordance with the invention, the transmission further comprises a brake (20) for braking the rotary output. The brake is provided with a control arrangement adapted to apply it when the speed ratio is set to the geared neutral ratio and to release the brake as the speed ratio is adjusted away from the geared neutral ratio.

Abstract: The first gear/reverse gate switch of the present invention includes a detent switch including a contact pin and a contact switch. When a manual transmission is shifted to a gear not in the first gear/reverse gate, the contact pin of the detent switch engages a recessed portion on a detent mechanism such that the contact pin does not engage the contact switch. This indicates that the transmission is not in a gear in the first gear/reverse gate. When the manual transmission is shifted to a gear in the first gear/reverse gate, the interlock moves the detent, pushing the contact pin into engagement with the contact switch. This indicates that the transmission is in a gear in the first gear/reverse gate. The switching device is shiftable, when the super-reduction mechanism is in neutral, from a state of operating the super-reduction mechanism to a state of operating the overdrive mechanism.

Abstract: A vehicle driving system having a clutch actuator and gear shifting device that use motors is provided. A clutch is disengaged and engaged and gear shifting is conducted at high speeds. The clutch actuator drives the clutch and includes a motion converting mechanism and two motors. The motion converting mechanism is a mechanism for converting rotary motion to linear motion and for applying an operating force to the clutch. The two motors are for applying a rotating force to the motion converting mechanism. The gear shifting automatically shifts gears by driving a transmission rack of a transmission and includes a ball screw mechanism and two motors. The ball screw mechanism is a mechanism for converting rotary motion to linear motion and for applying an operating force to the transmission. The two motors are for applying a rotating force to the ball screw mechanism.

Abstract: A shifting device of a motor vehicle transmission with a selector lever (3) and a kinematic elements (4-9) for transmitting the selection movements to the automatic transmission, wherein the selector lever can be moved in an automatic shift gate for selecting automatic gears and in a sequence shift gate for manually upshifting and downshifting gears. The shifting device (1) has three movement spaces (I, II, III), which are located next to one another and are preferably directed essentially in parallel to one another, and two adjacent movement spaces (I, II and/or II, III) each are provided for different functions.

  • Patent number: 6370980
Abstract: A vehicle gearbox includes a basic gearbox with a main shaft that is an input shaft to a high-low range gearset joined to the basic gearbox. The basic gearbox has a control shaft, which, rotated in either direction from a neutral position, engages a selected gear. The control shaft is coordinated with a lock-out device which is controlled by a first sensor, which senses the speed of the output shaft from the range gearbox, and a second sensor which senses the engaged range in the range gearbox. An operating device holds the lock-out device in a lock-out position which prevents rotation of the control shaft towards the position for the lowest synchronized gear in the basic box, when the vehicle speed exceeds a predetermined speed in the low range of the gearbox.

Abstract: An arrangement 1 for selectively actuating the four-wheel drive and differential lock engagement means of a vehicle comprises a hand operable selector mounted a bracket 4, the bracket 4 including a pathway, the selector comprising a protrusion which co-operates with the said pathway, so that movement of the selector in a first direction from a first position to a second position actuates four-wheel drive, and further movement in the first direction from the second position to a third position actuates the said differential lock, the pathway preventing the selector from moving in the first direction from the second position to the third position without first being moved in a second direction.

  • Patent number: 6349609
Abstract: An apparatus and method for converting an internal-linkage type of a transfer case from single lever to dual lever control includes a sleeve that is adapted for placement into a housing of the transfer case. A pivot pin is disposed in the sleeve and defines a pivot axis. The pivot pin passes through a first pivot hole in a first arm and a second pivot hole in a second arm. The first arm includes a first arcuate end at one end thereof and the second arm includes a second arcuate end at one end thereof. The first and second arcuate ends are each adapted to cooperate with a member in the transfer case sufficient for the first arm to select either a two or a four wheel drive mode and for the second arm to select either a high or a low gear range when the first and second arms are pivoted about the axis. A first and a second shift lever are attached to the first and second arms and a protective boot covers at least a portion of the housing.

  • Patent number: 6260432
Abstract: A selecting device facilitates selecting operating positions of an automatic transmission of a motor vehicle by the deflection of a selector lever which moves back automatically from all deflecting directions for selecting the individual operating positions. The automatic transmission can be controlled by this selector lever in a first operating mode—selecting individual driving positions in the automatic operation—or, in a second operating mode—step-by-step shifting of the gears in the manual operation. For each operating mode, one operating position of the automatic transmission respectively is assigned to each deflecting direction of the selector lever. The selector lever is movable, in two shifting channels which are essentially disposed perpendicularly with respect to one another such that maximally four operating positions can be selected in each of the two operating modes. In a third operating mode, cruise control functions can be controlled by means of the selector lever.
