  • Patent number: 5694817
Abstract: An improved automatic transmission has a reverse gear piston which can be engaged as a transmission brake. The piston is movable in a first direction and has a surface. A hydraulic system supplies transmission fluid to a space between the surface and the housing to engage the piston and removes the hydraulic fluid from the space to disengage the piston thereby releasing the transmission brake. In one embodiment, the hydraulic means has a passageway with the first cross-sectional area through the housing and a second cross-sectional area larger than the first cross-sectional area in the housing that is exposed to the space thereby reducing friction between the fluid and the second cross-section which reduces the release time of the fluid from the space. In another embodiment, the transmission has an apparatus for adjusting the cross-sectional area of the passageway through the housing.

A bearing is mounted on the outer circumference of the boss portion and has an inner race between the inner side of the bearing and the outer surface of the boss portion and an outer race between the outer side of the bearing and an inner circumference of an output gear which is mounted around the boss portion. In this way the output gear may be provided closely adjacent the planetary gear and the length of the input shaft and the second shaft may be kept substantially short.

Abstract: Gearbox with a shaft bearing (33) which is accommodated in a bearing eye (7) adjacent to an assembly opening (2), the bearing eye (7) being slotted towards the assembly opening (2). The assembly opening (2) and the bearing (33) are covered by a cap (36). The cap (36) contains a bore (35) for accommodating the major part of the axial extent of the bearing (33). The bearing bore of the bearing eye (7) is, by this means, substantially relieved of the support function and is only used for centring the bearing and the cap, whereas the support of the bearing takes place by means of the cap. The gearbox casing can contain an intermediate wall (8) between the assembly opening (2) and the output-end wall (13) for supporting the output shaft. So as to make it possible to assemble the output-end gearwheel (14) without a special assembly opening, the intermediate wall (8) is lopped at the level of the support (18) of the output shaft.

Abstract: A motorized reduction gear unit for any purpose having a crank and connecting rod mechanism incorporated in it, but especially for use as a vehicle screen wiper drive unit, comprises a hollow casing having a cover plate, with, within the hollow interior of the casing, a toothed wheel which is rotatable about an axis. The toothed wheel carries a gudgeon pin parallel to the axis of rotation of the toothed wheel but eccentric with respect to the latter. The pin drives a crank and connecting rod system in which the crank and connecting rod are articulated together about a pivot pin, so that continuous rotary motion of the toothed wheel is converted thereby into alternating rotary motion of an output shaft. The cover plate has on its inner face, facing towards the casing, an engagement surface for abutting engagement with the end of the crank in the region of the pivot pin.

  • Patent number: 5622088
Abstract: An improved automatic transmission has a reverse gear piston which can be engaged as a transmission brake. The piston is movable in a first direction and has a surface. A hydraulic supplies transmission fluid to a space between the surface and the housing to engage the piston and removes the hydraulic fluid from the space to disengage the piston thereby releasing the transmission brake. In one embodiment, the hydraulic has a passageway with the first cross-sectional area through the housing and a second cross-sectional area larger than the first cross-sectional area in the housing that is exposed to the space thereby reducing friction between the fluid and the second cross-section which reduces the release time of the fluid from the space. In another embodiment, the transmission can adjust the cross-sectional area of the passageway through the housing.

The hydrostatic pressure type continuously variable transmission is mounted to the narrow portion, so that it is accommodated within the height of the step. A differential is provided at the wide portion for differentially operating left and right axles, and a reducing gear mechanism extends from the narrow portion to the wide portion for transmitting an output from the continuously variable transmission to the differential through a multi-stage reduction. Thus, the output from the continuously variable transmission can be transmitted to the left and right axles through a reduction at a plurality of stages, and the structure of the drive device for the power working vehicle may be made simpler and more compact.
