Patent number: 5956996Abstract: In an engine starter, to facilitate the assembling of a solenoid assembly, an annular outer peripheral wall is formed in the casing for receiving the energization solenoid assembly and to secure the solenoid assembly by crimping a free end of the annular outer peripheral wall onto an axial end of the solenoid assembly, and the energization solenoid assembly is fitted into the bore defined by the annular outer peripheral wall by engaging the outer periphery of the solenoid assembly with three fingers of an assembly tool. A plurality of crimping portions are defined by a plurality of recesses provided along the circumferential direction of the free end of the annular outer peripheral wall so that the fingers of an assembling tool when inserting the solenoid assembly are not interfered by the annular outer peripheral wall.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1997Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Assignee: Mitsuba CorporationInventors: Koji Nara, Masaaki Ohya, Yoshikazu Sato, Michio Okada, Shinichi Nagashima, Eiichi Kimura

Patent number: 5894756Abstract: A governor system is provided for engine starter mechanisms to prevent a premature retracting movement of a single-direction rotatable clutch. The governor system is constructed with a reduced number of parts and such that a clutch does not suffer from the increased angular momentum as it rotates together with a governor weight. The governor system includes a casing or a bracket fixed to a driven gear, with the governor weight received in the casing. The governor weight is provided with a first and a second weight portion which are different in weight from each other such that the center of gravity of the governor weight is disposed radially eccentric.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1997Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: Mitsuba CorporationInventors: Shuji Uehara, Hiroshi Hiruma, Ryuichi Toya

Patent number: 5617758Abstract: In a permanent magnet starter, a pinion clutch is smoothly engaged with a rotating shaft of an electric motor through a helical spline. A rotation restraint member is arranged at an outer periphery portion and this rotation restraint member is forcibly arranged by a magnetic field coil which is controlled from an outside portion. In a permanent magnet type motor having no magnetic field coil for exciting the motor, it is unnecessary to alter a motor unit. By the rotation force of an armature a pinion gear of the pinion clutch is moved, accordingly the permanent magnet starter for reducing the collision force during the meshing time of the pinion gear to a ring gear can be obtained. Further the permanent magnet starter having a superior gear meshing withstanding property and further without the lowering in the sealing property in the motor unit can be obtained.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1995Date of Patent: April 8, 1997Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Tatsumi Nishida, Koki Ueta, Yasuhiko Maruhashi

Patent number: 4924717Abstract: The starter includes a main shaft (2) which is selectively rotatable and has a threaded portion (4). A movable component (10) is fitted on the shaft and is provided with a pinion (14) and a threaded portion (12) which is coupled with the threaded portion (4) of the shaft (2) in such an arrangement that the rotation of the shaft (2) causes the movement of the movable component (10) towards an advanced position in which the pinion (14) meshes with a ring gear (C) of the internal combustion engine. In order to keep the movable component (10) in its advanced position during the starting operation, the members (13a, 13b) which act centrifugally are provided and have respective generally-arcuate portions which clamp around a tapered portion (5, 6) of the main shaft when the starter is activated as a result of the centrifugal diverging of the bodies.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1989Date of Patent: May 15, 1990Assignee: Efel S.p.A.Inventor: Vittorio Aimo
