  • Patent number: 8893362
Abstract: A turret tool holder, having structure capable of easily avoiding unnecessary free rotation of a turret, is provided. When a linearly movable shaft is moved toward a turret head section by driving a servomotor, an annular movable coupling element arranged in the turret begins to disengage from an annular fixed coupling element fixed to a support. While the movable coupling member is still engaged with the fixed coupling member, clutch teeth of a clutch member are engaged with other clutch teeth. Therefore, even when the annular movable coupling element is disengaged from the annular fixed coupling element, the turret is prevented from freely rotating by the engaged clutch teeth.

  • Patent number: 6427554
Abstract: An axial displacement mechanism for precisely adjusting the axial displacement of a turret plate relative to a turret table is disclosed. Turret tables are commonly used to support a workpiece such as the hollow tubular section of a tin box immediately prior to the seaming of a lid thereto and are commonly angularly indexed between a plurality, usually four, separate work stations disposed above the turret plate. The turret table is rigidly secured to a frame while the turret plate must be capable of being axially displaced relative thereto to suit a variety of different components. The turret plate is rigidly secured to an annular bush through a central aperture of which passes a cylindrical screw, the threads of which engage in corresponding threads in the inner annular surface of the bush. The screw abuts an axially fixed portion secured to or being a drive spindle which imparts motion to said fixed portion, said annular bush and said screw to cause the turret plate to rotate.

  • Patent number: 5297454
Abstract: A device for rotationally indexing an indexing table by utilizing a synchronized tap function of a machine tool main spindle. The rotation and the axial feeding displacement of the main spindle are in a specific synchronized relation. When the main spindle is fed forward, it engages an input shaft of the indexing device and thrusts it to retract against a spring force. Upon arriving at a retracted position of the input shaft, the main spindle starts rotation in one direction. Because of a one-way clutch between the input shaft and the indexing table, the rotation of the input shaft imparted by the main spindle is not transmitted to the indexing table. After a predetermined angular rotation and an axial feed, the main spindle is rotated in the reverse direction to be withdrawn axially. At this time the one-way clutch operates to transmit the reverse rotation to the indexing table. The indexing device is of compact construction and ensures accurate indexing.

  • Patent number: 4785513
Abstract: A compound turret for machine tools such as latches or the like having rotating and non-rotating tooling turrets mounted on a single housing. The compound turret includes a primary drive and a secondary drive. The primary drive includes a compound turret indexing unit operable to index the rotating and non-rotating tooling turrets into the turret operating and turret storage positions. The compound turret indexing unit consists of a harmonic drive that enables the operator to incrementally vary the turret operating position. The harmonic drive achieves high reduction ratios in a single stage thus eliminating the cumbersome gear systems usually implemented to achieve the reduction ratios required. The primary drive further includes a non-rotating tool indexing unit. The non-rotating tool indexing unit is operable to index the non-rotating tooling. The non-rotating tool indexing unit consists of a harmonic drive unit similar to the compound turret indexing unit.

Abstract: A twin disc type tool turret mechanism for CNC machines including a double layer of tool mounting discs attached respectively to two of a three-piece toothed ring-type registration and lock coupling. The front disc provides a number of mounting slots for external turning tools and the rear disc provides the same number of mounting seats for facing, OD turning or internal boring tools. A drive mechanism combined with a hydraulic control system incorporated in/on the turret housing facilitates unlocking, rotation, and relocking of the discs with the turret housing. The subject turret can also include provisions for attachment of revolving tools with an active spindle and an additional spindle motor for effecting the required processing operations. In addition, both OD and ID probes and a signal transmitting mechanism may be installed in both discs to accomplish in-process measurement of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4685251
Abstract: A surface grinding machine wherein the turret for two grinding tools is indexible with reference to a support by disengaging the surfaces of its two coaxial sections from opposite sides of an annular component of the support. This is effected by cylinder and piston units which move one of the sections axially of any away from the other section before moving the other section away from the annular component. The one section carries one portion of a first bearing which engages the other portion of such bearing on the support when the one section is disengaged from the annular component. The other section carries one portion of a second bearing which engages another portion of the second bearing on the support in response to disengagement of the other section from the annular component. The turret is then indexible to a different position before the cylinder and piston units effect of allow a return movement of the two sections of the turret into frictional engagement with the annular component.
