Jaw Faces Patents (Class 81/186)
  • Patent number: 11938600
Abstract: A tool having gripping jaw teeth that provide a contact pattern for engaging fasteners on-axis. The gripping teeth are formed in a depression disposed at a distal end of a jaw and are oriented at an angle that turns away from a major axis of the tool or an axis that is orthogonal to a plane formed by a front face of the jaw to increase the gripping force that can be applied to the fastener before the tool disengages or “slips against” the fastener.

Abstract: Disclosed is a release mechanism for locking pliers. The mechanism includes a center link and release link that work together to form an over-center lock with a release lever that acts sequentially on the center link and release link. The release lever can first contact the center link at a protrusion, and then contact a release link connected to the center link to release the over-center lock. User experience is therefore improved by a sequential unlocking operation that reduces the amount of leverage required to unlock the pliers.

Each of the clamp surfaces has a tangential surface and a distance between the two tangential surfaces is longer than the maximum distance between two corners of the bolt head. An angle is defined between the axis of the passage and the tangential surface of the clamp surface. The clip is engaged within the passage and the outer periphery of the clip is engaged with the annular groove and the inner periphery of the clip protrudes from the extension so as to contact the second shoulder to prevent the movable member from dropping from the passage.
