Patent number: 5802692Abstract: A glo-plug extractor is disclosed. An internally threaded sleeve is threaded over an externally threaded bolt having a bolt head at one end and a set of jaws at the other. The jaws are fitted to lock onto the head of a fully unscrewed, yet bound glo-plug. After the jaws are locked onto the glo-plug, the sleeve is braced against the engine head either by screwing the sleeve down over the jaws until it contacts the engine head or by placing some bracing apparatus such as a spacer or a set of legs between the sleeve and the engine head. Once the sleeve is braced, it must be locked in place using a locking apparatus such as vice grips or a wrench. The bolt head is then used to rotate the bolt relative to the sleeve. This rotation causes the sleeve to exert a pulling force on the bound glo-plug which either extracts the glo-plug whole or breaks it.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1996Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Inventor: Devin Philippe

Patent number: 5005450Abstract: The locking tool of this invention comprises three or more pieces. All three pieces are connected together with an axle pin. A first handle piece has one or more arc-like slots which criss-cross with one or more slots in a second handle piece. A third piece called a jaw piece has a vertical slot that is coextensive with the other two slots. A locking pin is movably positioned in and through the three slots. When pressure is exerted upon the two handle pieces, this locking pin is tilted against the walls of the slots to lock the jaws of the tool in position. When pressure is exerted on the handles, the slots can leverage the pin both rotationally and radially. Resistance to the pin movement either radial or rotational causes the pin to be tilted against the walls of the slot in such positions as to preclude natural reversed movement of the pin as in a one-way valve.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1990Date of Patent: April 9, 1991Inventor: Vernon Ford

Patent number: 4987626Abstract: A locking slip-joint pliers with a phillips screwdriver on one handle and a slot screwdriver on the other, with the pliers having four positions, the first and second positions being a conventional slip-joint pliers including jaws and a cutter while the third position locks the plier members at a 90 degree angle to each other thus providing a means to put pressure on the screwdriver tips, while the fourth position is a wide open position which partially locks the plier members in a substantially straight line, thus making an unusually long screwdriver.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1990Date of Patent: January 29, 1991Inventors: Robert D. Patent number: 4899734Abstract: An arresting member (5) is rotatably mounted about the lengthwise axis of a lever handle (2) of a pair of pliers. The arresting member (5) is directed towards the other lever handle (1) and penetrates with its free end (11) through a slot (12) in this other lever handle (1). The shank (13) of the arresting member (5) is flattened so that the arresting member in one rotational position can axially freely slide in the slot (12). The largest radial extent of the shank (13) slightly exceeds the width of the slot (12) so that the arresting member (5) is clamped in another rotational position in the slot (12). By fabricating the arresting member (5) from a deformable material, the pair of pliers can be operated also with the arresting pin in this rotational position. Upon sliding through the slot (12) the arresting member (5) is thereby deformed.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1988Date of Patent: February 13, 1990Assignee: Ottes Trading S.A.Inventor: Doris Gelley

Patent number: 4893530Abstract: In a plier-type tool having the capability to automatically slidably adjust, in response to manual closing of its handle ends, to the size of any workpiece or other item to be gripped which is within the size range defined by the maximum opening between the tool jaws, certain structural and functional improvements are provided which are intended to simplify and reduce the costs of manufacturing of the tool and to enhance its appearance and performance.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1987Date of Patent: January 16, 1990Inventor: William A. Warheit

Patent number: 4554848Abstract: A pair of pliers is equipped with an expander unit that spreads the handles so that the jaws will forcibly grip objects from the inside. External teeth on the jaws aid in gripping.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1984Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Inventor: Joseph L. Galletto

Patent number: 4240280Abstract: A hand crimping tool having a first handle and a second handle connected to the first handle by a main pivot pin and a pair of jaws connected to the handles for movement together upon pivoting of the handles about the main pivot pin. A signal mechanism is provided to produce a sensory perception to the user of the completion of a predetermined crimping movement of the jaws.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1979Date of Patent: December 23, 1980Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Floyd L.
